I've gone through this game twice and found several things that would help any character:

The other thing about dexterity is that it also helps with your defenses, as well. May not be fully active defense, but it does help.

It's best to have about 9 in both seduction and persuasion before getting to the Giovanni Mansion. Otherwise you may be stuck in the conversation...
