Another Trio of Fable Reviews

Another set of fairly positive reviews for Fable have hit the web over the past couple of days. The first is at Eurogamer with an overall score of 8/10:
So Fable is, essentially, a Christmas Tree of a game. It uses the solid Action RPG as a frame to hand every random, glorious, playful bauble Lionhead and Big Blue Box could construct off. It'll certainly gain the ire of the sort of person who furiously states that the vast majority of the decisions don't "matter" in games like Knights of the Old Republic or Deus Ex. For those of us who understand that while true non-linear storytelling is never going to happen, personalising a linear narrative in meaningful ways according to your own inclinations is far from inconsequential, then it's another significant step into the future.

The second is at RPGDot with an overall score of 75%:
I wanted to love Fable. Many of its ideas are incredibly original and creative, and properly implemented, have the potential to bring new life to the RPG genre. The game is undeniably fun to play, and one of the most beautiful experiences to be released on the Xbox to date. But whatever experience you might hope to get out of Fable, it's hard not to be disappointed on some level with the end result. The game is far too short for anything but a FPS, and that's if you spend a lot of time messing around - if you only performed the main quests, you could conceivably be done with Fable in 7 or 8 hours. It's not enough of a challenge to be a great action game, and there's not enough to do, or enough freedom to do it, for it to be a great RPG. The game is still well worth playing, but it's hard to shake the feeling that with a little less focus group testing, a bit more story and side questing, and a little more nerve, it could have been incredible.

And the third is at High School Gamers with an overall score of 9.5/10:
Fable turns out to be an ambitious RPG that truly outshines all of the competition in certain aspects, and in others really could have used some improvement. It is very short but while it lasts it is one of the best games out there right now. RPG fanatics will definitely want to fork over the cash for this one, and all other Xbox gamers should at least give this game a rental and a one-time play through.
