Interplay to Develop Baldur's Gate Games

In surprising news, Infogrames has made a deal with Interplay to allow them to develop more in the series of Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale games. Here's a paragraph from the coverage at Eurogamer:

Interplay today announced a deal with Infogrames which will allow them to continue making games in the Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale series. Infogrames were possibly the last remaining company with a license to develop and publish Dungeons & Dragons video games, but they have now sold a multi-year multi-title sublicense to Interplay. The exact terms of this deal are unknown, but we would guess that a fair amount of cash exchanged hands, as the only alternatives would have been for Interplay to allow Infogrames to publish the games, or to abandon the franchise entirely.

Thanks Mark H. for the news.
