Conan Exiles: Server Troubles, Mod Support, and Comic Books

I'm not going to make a 'what is best in life' joke here even though I really want to. Still, Funcom's Conan Exiles selling over 320,000 copies in just about a week is pretty good. Especially considering just how saturated the market is with all the Early Access survival games. Whether it's the license, or the RPG elements, people flocked to the game in higher numbers than anticipated. This, together with some internal issues with Funcom's server provider, resulted in the game's official servers shutting down. Frustrating as it is, the issue seems to be resolved now, and the servers are going back online:

We are in the process of bringing online both new, clean servers, as well as servers that have the old databases and the buildings, items, and progress of everyone who played on those servers. That way you can choose if you want to go back where you left off or start afresh.

As we said earlier, we are bringing the US servers up today and will be bringing EU servers online tomorrow, with other territories to follow.

You should already be seeing new, fresh US servers come up now, and you are free to jump on and play at any time. However, we ran into a few snags when bringing up servers with the old databases. We could fix that by simply wiping the databases clean, but that would mean those of you who played on those servers would lose all your belongings and all your progress. As such, we have decided to bring those servers down again and our coders are now working hard on fixing that issue so we can bring them up again as soon as possible – with all your items and all your progress intact.

Apart from the server-related news, another official Steam forums post has a couple of interesting tidbits of information. One informs us that the official dev kit has been released and Steam Workshop support is now in. And the other announces that Funcom will be present at GDC 2017 and PAX East where, apart from showcasing new content and ideas, a Conan Exiles comic book will be unveiled. Funcom is going all out with this title, utilizing the best tools at every barbarian's disposal: networking and merchandising. Maybe, they'll even make Crom proud and leave Early Access at some point in the future.

And here's a short quote from Funcom's CEO:

“We are deeply humbled and very grateful for the initial success of Conan Exiles,” says Funcom CEO Rui Casais. “Funcom has gone through some challenging times in recent years and seeing the game we have poured so much time and effort into gain this amount of traction so quickly is very invigorating for everyone who works here. This is just the start of the Early Access adventure and we will do whatever it takes to make sure Conan Exiles turns into a fully-fledged game that has something to offer new and old fans of both Conan and survival games.”
