Hidden Loot Bags

Post by Arok2092 »

In my old file I found in a couple of spots in the game where there was a half melted into the ground "loot bag". One spot was right outside the Dunbarrow Cove under the water, and the next spot was in-on the stairs leading up to a shop on the Anvil Docks(can't remember the shop name). There was some gold and gems in these bags but my main problem is "Where in the world did these bags come from!?" I haven't found them in any of my other files and the Official Oblivion Guide and all unofficial ones do not mention the bags.

I am playing on an Xbox on the very first copy of Oblivion before it got recalled and re-rated. I also have all but one(the Orrery) of the Official Expansions.

Anybody know anything about these bags?

i used to find these bags too, ive heard people say that they appear if you drop too much stuff on the ground and they usually contain whatever you dropped( i always found those outside oblivion gates wherein i had dropped loads of daedric stuff because of the encumbrance and i was kinda happy when i found all the stuff back). got pretty rich that way!

Found this on the Oblivon Wiki: "A loot bag will appear in a cell when too many items are dropped on the ground in order to prevent the game from crashing due to the number of item slots being exhausted. They always appear in the dead center of a cell and anything dropped in that cell thereafter will appear in the bag."

That sure helps a lot. Also through my own personal experience I find that these bags never lose items and no one ever steals from them so you can have them as your own personal storage containers.

Recently had a rather strange encounter with a Loot Bag. I happened upon the Graveyard in the Waterfront District of The Imperial City where I happened upon a couple of pirates who became hostile when they saw me. ( They were leftover pirates from the quest A Watery Grave )

Now when I fought off the Pirates my game became unprecedently laggy. That is when I found the bag but what surprised me most were the contents. A portable Wanted Poster of the Gray Fox.(I've never even found one of these in the game proper so I don't think they actually existed!)

Of even more interest however was the "weapon" that was titled "<Missing Name>". I only call this a weapon because it is lasted as such under the Inventory. Weirdly when I "equip" it in First Person there is a big blue line in the center of my screen. When viewed in 3rd person however is a far more interesting picture. It shows a gigantic yellow panel over my character with a big blue exclamation point on it! When equipped I can still put on another weapon at the same time and everybody still acts normally. I have not dropped the item to examine it further as I'm afraid it might crash my game. Does anybody know what this is or if it's bad for a game?

P.S. The avatar for <Missing Name> is a green cloudy square exactly like that of the Mace of Doom.

I researched this a bit more on the Elder Scrolls Wiki and it seems to me this glitch is similar to the Broken Candles glitch except that this is a carriable and portable version.
