mindless movies(SPAM expected)
I just watched DUDE, WHERE'S MY CAR, and i have to say it was amusing but really it lost my interest quickly. It seems that most movies are like this now a days. they show the preveiw and it looks hilarious then when you watch it, everything that is funny was in the preveiw. they should have a disclaimer that says "WARNING, YOU HAVE SEEN ALL THE GOOD STUFF ALREADY".
I not saying that it is crap, just that they hype the flicks up so much that it is disappointing when you see it.

Ummm, well take it for granted that all the best bits will be what you see in the trailer. They usually are.
Like Tombraider, that looked cool in the trailer but the film was very disappointing.
And seriously, you saw the trailer for Dude, Where's My Car... and that made you want to see it?

Why go see a movie at all anymore? They all the best parts in the trailers and you've practically seen the entire movie, at least, all that's 'necessary' to see.

Hmmm, I think it's only true of the bad films. I mean, whether a film is good or bad, you can probably still cut a good looking two minute trailer from it. But that's no indication of how good the film is, unless maybe you go to movies on the basis of the special effects.Originally posted by Sailor Saturn:

One movie I can think of is Memento - the trailer barely gives away anything of the movie - and it's a fantastic movie

Then there are the other films that you don't see many trailers for, or where the trailers are good but so is the film, or that read as quite boring, but then surprise you.
A few that jump to mind for me:
Fried Green Tomatoes(?)
Green Mile
The Colour Purple (but then I had read the book first
- I just expected to be disappointed with the film)
The Matrix
Something About Mary
Shanghai Noon
Face Off
There was another one, a black comedy, a bit of a take off of Jaws but with crocdiles. That was hysterical. And another more recent one with Oprah in it, but I cannot remember the name
I saw it three nights running...Doh!

Parachute for sale, like new! Never opened!
Guinness, black goes with everything.

i don't GO to the movies often(ever try to get a 2yr old to sit still for 2 hours
), so I rent them off of Direct TV. I thought Dude was funny but not as much as i thought it would be. The best "serious" movie i have seem lately was THE GREEN MILE. it was totally not aything that i expected. It was very captivating.

I wasn't saying that the movies are not necessarily good, I'm just saying that in a lot of the trailers, you pretty much see the entire storyline. Part of the reason that in most trailers, nearly the entire storyline is shown is that the newer movies don't seem to have much of a storyline. A few exceptions are Final Fantasy, Shrek, and Jurassic(sp?) Park III. *finishes complaining about movies lacking storylines*Originally posted by Georgi:

@SS Oh, true, that's annoying. I saw What Lies Beneath as a preview, so I didn't know anything about it really before I saw it... when I saw a trailer for it afterwards, I was amazed, they basically gave away the entire story, I mean all the stuff that I thought actually created the suspense in the movie...
Scream 3 had a good trailer. Like the part where you see the knife thrown at Dewey's head. That's a good teaser.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I thought the movie was pretty lame. But I imagine it's even worse when you already know what's going on because they gave it away in the trailer. Then there would be no reason to watch it at all.Originally posted by Aegis:

@Leedogg, GMTA. I was just saying as much to my wife last week. I've even heard news interviews with producers who bragg about putting all the best lines in the trailers! It's ridiculous, IMO. And if you watch trailers for old films--stuff from the 1930s through the 60s--the best lines are held back. They used trailers to build anticipation for a film. The current practice does the opposite.Originally posted by leedogg:

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

I remember back in college I attended a Hitchc0ck film festival. They showed a lot of the old trailers to his movies as well as his movies. Some of the trailers had almost nothing to do with the movie! For The Birds, old Al just walks around his living room talking about people's unreasonable fears. There's a crow in a bird cage, and he sits down to eat a Game Hen meal. Hilarious. Not a single scene from the actual movie.
I think directors should be limited to the first ten minutes of their move for all material usable in the trailer.

That there; exactly the kinda diversion we coulda used.
