Computer Games?

Post by Nippy »

I was interested in something that I read the other day. One guy talked about the fact that the only reason he played games was to kick other people's asses.

Some people might consider this stupid but to be honest I am more interested in the storyline if a game than the gameplay really. I bought Baldurs Gate because of the saga, Freespace series because of the amazing storylines involved and Silver (an uknown, but very good RPG) because of the story.

Am I the only one to think this way?

Please reply with your opinions and points of view. :)

Yes - you are :D :D :D

No really - there is as many ways and reasons to why people play games as there are gamers.
I play generally most genres of games - and I play them for different reasons.

I play FPS to get action, to frag somebodys ... and to get frustraions out.
I play CRPG to get a great storyline/gameplay (hopefully) and to relax/unwind.
I play strategy games to challenge my tactical/strategical skills.

And then there all the hybrid games ei. Rainbow 6 + Deus Ex, Sim-games.

There are of course people - whos only reason is like you stated to test their skills against other players, and that is fine with me - eventhoug I would find it boring excelling in only one genre - I'd rather just be good at plenty :)

I have to agree :)

Still I don't play FPS anymore...Mr.Sleep told me of a better way to work my frustraions out. Counting to ten...and if that don't work count higher. Just the other day I tried this and it worked. (It took a count of 1,298,567,351)

CRPG...story, adverture.

I suck at SP IIRC :D
I actually don't know - I've not played SP in a looong time - but at my height in MP, me and one friend could take the computer in CTF at second higest level.

We played mostly CTF and Team Deathmatch against the computer.

You play UT I can imagine?

Nope, that would be inhuman. (Top level being godlike...) :D

Oh, and Overlord is a real b!tch of a level... ;)

To answer Nippy's question, it's kinda nice to have both decent gameplay *and* story, but I'd play a game with lame gameplay if it had a good story... I get bored pretty quick with FPS-type stuff with little or no story. I only play FPS at LAN parties. Ummm, that must be why my butt gets kicked.

I play FPS because of the instant action.
I play RPGS also for the story line.
I was playing UT before I got BG2. I got a mod for it that lets you use more down-to-earth weapons otherwise I would have gotten bored of it pretty soon.
Which level is Overord?

Not to brag or anything, but Inhuman is childs play in UT. FPS come extremly natural too me, and I always set it to highest, when I'm still a novice. It's the best learning enviroment, and it allows me to become quick on my feet, and accurate with my aim. A few months back (when UT first came out) I was actually one of the top fifty players on the UT record ladder. Something like 5000 or so frags withen a few weeks, and only about 1500 deaths. I got the page written around somewhere. Favorite weapon, (and most effective IMO) is dual-pistols (Can't remember what there called) anyway, once I get my new comp, I'll gladly have a few matches with you two.

@ Aegis the pistols were Enforcers.

@ Sleepy Silver was indeed a very good game. The trouble was I only used 2 NPC's for the game. Kagain and the lummox who I've forgotten his name.

Thanks, Enforcers (It's been about half a year since I played the thing).

I personnally never used the SNpier Rifle, except when defending in Overlord (Guard tower on the left, many good head shots..) Usually, I thought the Plasma Rifle was always a fun little toy, and used it if I didn't have the dual-enforcers.

90% of my kills with the sniper is head shot - and IIRC it stands for about 35-40% of total kills. That is many head shots :D

I couldn't remember, thankyou for clearing that up. :)

@Nippy Kaigan kicked ass (literally) he was so good with his hands it was a shame to give him a weapon :)

Aegis, how much of your skill was down to tactics, or was most of your skill a question of reactions?
