item strength
item strength
i was wondering about how to get the most out of quest weapons, ex. Mehrunes Razor. In Morrowind i got this weapon early on and it rocked, but on this site it shows different strengths for the weapon and i would like to know how to get the strongest version. Srry fable if this is a repost but i haven't been on in a while and i don't have much time anymore.

No problem. If the question existed in our database I'd still close this thread, and tell you to make time.
But I don't recall seeing anything like this, and it brings up an interesting point.
One thing to note: many tweak mods will change the values of various weapons and armor. Are you using any?

In Oblivion the risks and rewards are tied tightly to your level. You never run into anything that can squash you like a bug, but you never get any magic items that make you feel invincible either. And unfortunately, the stats on magic items don't level up with you, so that magic weapon that was way cooler than an iron longsword at 1st level will probably be collecting dust in a display case with your other keepsakes by the time you hit 10th level. In stock Oblivion the only way to get the most powerful version of any leveled item is to wait until you hit level 25 before you do the quest to get it, although there are several mods on the PC that try to make the risk/reward equation a little less predictable.
I'm still a relative noob to Morrowind (yeah, played them backwards, long story), but it seems to me like you can get items that are more powerful than you would be able to get at the same level in Oblivion (although you have to fight things that are way tougher than you are to get them).

Can the answer to this question be "No"?
I am running the Vile Lair, Fighters Stronghold, Theives Den, and Mehrunes Razor on the Xbox and Fighters Stronghold on PC. Other than that I am running the stock Oblivion plain and simple. On my PC both of my characters are above lvl 20 and my Xbox character is lvl 10 or 11. So I guess I'll just wait until I reach lvl 25.

I would suggest checking the readmes on those mods, and see if any of them change values. At least on the PC side, if multiple mods tweak a value, the last mod loaded is the one that actually sets what that value is in the game.

Alternatively, for your PC characters, you might consider using the mod Quest Award Levelling by Namegduf Live (Quest Award Leveling - Planet Elder Scrolls). What it does is add a couple of scripts which automatically upgrade all quest items in your inventory to the highest usable version each time you level. In essence, you can get a quest reward at level 1 and get the level 1 version, and when you reach level 10, you'll receive the level 10 version. The mod includes an optional second part which works for the Finger of the Mountain spell. Don't use it unless you play a pure mage, the high level FotM spell uses an absurd amount of mana.

Lemmus, you're leaving out an important part: that the battles get upgraded, too. So you won't simply face the number of challengers at level 10 as you would at level 1, only tougher, but a lot more of them. Some have criticized this mod for going way over the top in this respect, though others like it for the "epic feel" it gives to battles.

Actually, I wasn't aware of that. I used a very early version of the mod when it first came out, but haven't played Oblivion in over a year. I just figured I'd mention it as an option for the OP since no one else had. Thanks for bringing that up, though, I'll have to keep it in mind when I re-install.
