Forgotten Realms 3rdE

Post by TheHellion »

I just bought the FRCS for 3rd edition! :D I'm quite pleased, for the most part. Though, I must say, Sean K. Reynolds' insistance on sticking to the NPC total item value rules is rather annoying; everyone knows that Twinkle is a +5 defender, not +2. And according to these stats, Icingdeath isn't even a frost brand, just a plain old frost scimitar. I mean, come on, you can adhere to the rules without tearing apart a good NPC like Drizzt.

Which brings me to another point. Even more frustrating is the fact that the book uses a double-standard; Drizzt is severely toned down from his previous incarnations, but some lower-level NPCs have even better and more expensive items than he does. What's the deal with that? If you're going to stick to a pre-defined format, at least use the same format for everyone involved. This just makes everyone's favorite dark-elf look discriminated against; poor Drizzt! Anyhow, he could kick Sean K. Reynolds' butt. ;) :D

Anyone else have this book, and would like to make some comments? What did you think of it?

What's FRCS?

Anyway, Drizzt's equipment should be:
Onyx cat figurine (Guenhwyvar)
Two magical scimitars (Twinkle, which was given to him by a powerful mage, and another blade, which he found when he and Wulfgar killed the terrible White Dragon, Icingdeath)
Medallion of Mielikki
Possibly a Mithral chainmail.
Plus the standard drow spells (Faerie Fire, Dancing Lights, Darkness)

And that's really all.
All that can go wrong, will, unless it doesn't, but then, it might anyway.
Xaosetic version of Murphy's Law.

Are these the stats for Drizzt Do'Urden they printed in the FRCS?

Drizzt's D&D3 game stats

That's what they posted on the Wizards of the Coast webpage shortly after D&D3 came out.

I would say that we should probably expect some of the things we "know" about our favourite heroes to change a little bit as they adapt their old stats from 2nd Edition to D&D3.
