Alright, in D&D, what is the difference between demons and devils? I know there is a difference, because in the book "Servent of the Shard" by R.A. Salvatore, one excript say that :
"Chreshibon (sp?) is the love of demons, but the bane to devils..."
Chreshibon is the crystal shard, a sentient artefact bent on total control of everything, for those of you that don't know.

If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do.

The difference between devils and demons in D&D is philosophy.
Demons, calling themselves tanar'ri, are chaotic evil and generally live in a lower plane, called "the abyss".
Devils, calling themselves baatezu, are lawful evil and generally live in a lower plane, called "baator", or Hell in simple terms.
Demons hate devils because they see devils as too lawful and tainted to be the true *evil* while devils see demons as tainted by chaos, and therefore not the real *evil*. They fight eternally, in something called The Blood War, to decide which side will then lay standing and be the one true source of evil in the multiverse.

The tanar'ri with their balors and teh baatezu with their pit fiends.
Is baator also called the 9 hells? Isn't Bhaal supposed to have had his domain in the 9 Hells?
If the 9 Hells were the realm of the baatezu how could Irenicus (at the end of BG2) summon tanar'ri and not have them slaughtered by some pit fiends and such.
From my Drizzt knowledge: Some of the lower planes are the abyss, baator, tarterus, and hades.
Basically the diffference between devils and demons are that the demons want to cause havoc and kill everything across the realms (chaos), while the devils want to rule as dictators (lawful)
