the adventuring type does things in scrambled order. visiting random locations, caves, mines, if accessible.

it happened to my chara quite some times, that he picked items in a cave, where he had to return later for a quest, and re-explore the place in order to get the message at the end: "you've found a shield, bring it back to XXXX" or whatever.

there are still some zero-weight items in my inv, picked up at random places, mostly dungeons.

there is a black robe (not necromancer's) for instance. will there be a quest for it eventually, or not necessarily?

There are a few zero-weight items that are not quest related. Black robe, dark shirt, dark pants, etc. They're handy for mage & ultra-light thief types who don't wear any armour. Eventually when your armour skill gets high enough it won't encumber you, but normal clothes will always weigh a few pounds (and you always wish you could carry just a couple more pounds of loot).

The real tip-off that an item is quest related is if you can't drop it (even if you pick it up before the quest actually starts).
Can the answer to this question be "No"?
