Trouble installing

Post by RedneckJedi »

Hi. I have uninstalled the game and now am reinstalling it. BG: TOS ... I get it installed right up to almost complete where it is doing the set up. It goes to the black screen and does nothing and when I try to close it says that it hasn't finished the set up "are you sure you want to exit set up" crap. I had to uninstall it because I installed TuTu and it said I had minimum installation and I needed a full install... Any idea whats going on here?

Thanks!

Just a possibility--but the BG series is notorious for not uninstalling without leaving registry entries. When that happens, reinstallation is problematic.

You might try this:

1) Uninstall the game.
2) Back up your registry. This is vital.
3) Open your registry by running regedit.
4) Do a find on all mentions of Bioware, then on Baldur, just to be safe. (I'm assuming you have no other Bioware games currently installed--or don't search on Bioware!) Delete these.
5) Exit, and reboot.
6) Reinstall.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Fable please edit your post with the following info:
[BG/TotSC] - How to manually uninstall Baldur's Gate: (Back to Top)

In order to completely remove the original Baldur's Gate from your machine follow these instructions:

You'll need to go into the utility called REGEDIT Click on start, then run and type REGEDIT and press ok Now, only remove EXACTLY what is stated below. If you remove the wrong information from your registry, your machine may not boot up. You should see an item called HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Click the + beside that and look for the following (clicking the + each time):

SOFTWARE BioWare Corp. (make sure it's the one with the period)

In there, you should find a folder called Baldur's Gate Right Click on the baldur's gate folder and delete it. Then, under SOFTWARE, look for the following (clicking the + again):

Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion App Paths

In the App Paths, find BGMAIN.EXE and right click and delete it.

One last thing to find. It's in the CurrentVersion section. Find Uninstall and click on the + You should find Baldur's Gate (this is what lists it in the add/remove programs). Right click and delete Baldur's Gate (if you find it).

Doesn't the original TotSC installation finish with a video promo of Icewind Dale? I seem to recall that if that video doesn't run then the installation doesn't complete properly.

If it's failing to finish because it fails to run th video, it could be a Vidoeo Card/driver related problem. If RedneckJedi has updated his/her drivers in the recent past, possibly reinstalling the original drivers might help.

Thaanks everyone for your advice. I tried for the umpteenth time to reinstall and did so unerringly. I don't know what it was but the last time went smoothly.

Thanks again.
