Knights of the Thorn (Spoilers.)

Post by unregisturd »

Near Cheydinhal, there's that Knights of the Thorn Lodge. It always interested me, but whenever I go to go in, the door icon's always red, so I can't go in there without trespassing. I went in anyway, and the guy in there says "You shouldn't be here", but when I talk to him he says something to the effect of "welcoming me as the newest member".

Anybody know what quest or part of a quest this Knights of the Thorn is in and where I can go to activate it? I've been through all the Fighter's and Mage's Guild quests, and in a previous game I did all the Thieve's Guild quests, so I know it's not part of those. I haven't done the main quest yet; I'm holding off on that. But yeah.. any information would be appreciated.

Also, I'm having a lot of fun doing all the little sidequests, so if anyone knows of any really fun ones, let me know where I can go to activate them. :)

...and one more thing. Does anyone know of a REALLY cool-looking shirt? Preferably black or brown.. I just joined the Thieve's Guild, and I like to wear clothes that fit the part, so currently I've got my guy wearing "Breeches", a brown hood, and some amulet I'm going to enchant for either Sneak or Feather (I've also enchanted the Breeches and hood). Currently, I can't find a shirt that I think looks good and fits my character, but if anyone knows of any let me know what it is and where I can find it. Thanks. :)

It's related to the main quest. Spoiler:
Spoiler
once Oblivion gates start opening up around Cyrodiil and you go into the one near Cheydinhal, you find the head of the Knights of the Thorn trapped inside after he and his men made an unsuccessful attempt to close the gate. If you get him out alive, he'll make you a member.
if anyone knows of any really fun ones, let me know where I can go to activate them.
I enjoyed "A Brush With Death". It's a fairly simple quest, but it looks great. Ask about rumors in Cheydinhal and speak with Tivela Lythandas to start.

"An Unexpected Voyage" was literally unexpected for me. It was in a place I'd been many times and then weird cool stuff starts happening. Spoiler:
Spoiler
To start, ask for a bed at the Bloated Float in the Imperial City waterfront district.
A Shadow Over Hackdirt is a treat for HP Lovecraft fans. To start you need to meet Dar-Ma in Chorrol and then a few days later ask about rumors and talk to her mother Seed-Neeus at the Northern Goods store.
Does anyone know of a REALLY cool-looking shirt?
Dark Shirt is kind of rare but it looks cool for a sneaky character plus it has a weight of 0. It mostly shows up in vampire loot but some NPCs have them, and there are one or two of them you can kill without feeling guilty. Spoiler:
Spoiler
Agarmir, who you meet if you do the "Unfriendly Competition" side quest you get from Jensine in the Imperial City market district.
Major Spoiler:
Spoiler
Vicente Valtieri will become a kind of mentor to you if you do the Dark Brotherhood quest line, but you eventually have to kill him.
Can the answer to this question be "No"?

Personally, I loved "Paranoia". You can activate it by speaking to Glarthir (Not sure of spelling) in Skingrad. Loved the dairy entries I discovered in his basement after finishing the quest.

I literally just picked up this quest and was about to do it after I finished up some other stuff. :) Cool, thanks.

Oo! I was just walking around the Waterfront recently and I saw the Bloated Float, which I've only been in once before, and I was like, "Hmm. I'll have to stay in there and explore it a little better." :p Cool. I just recently got attacked by those stupid pirates. The lady was like, "Don't go anywhere near my ship!" So I was like :mischief: and started inching towards it, and she attacked me. I reloaded, because I didn't want them to be dead, but I really want their cutlasses...

Uugh. I HATE the Shadow Over Hackdirt quest. I've actually been able to avoid actually talking to Dar Ma, because when I first went in to Chorrol, I went into Trade Goods and her and her mother were both in there, so she didn't automatically talk to me. So that quest hasn't even been activated for me yet, thank God.
Oh, and I don't think I'm gonna do the Dark Brotherhood quests.. They're too evil for me. I watched my brother do them. Sick, sick people.. :p

Do you know what level the Dark Shirt starts appearing? Because I've been all over in this game (mostly at levels 1-3 with my current character, but I've been around [not QUITE as much] with my level 25 character) and I have yet to see it..

Thanks for your input. :) I much appreciate it. Let me know if you find anything else! Currently my guy looks pretty dumb wearing only pants and a hood and sandals, but hey, he'd look even dumber with a stupid "Olive Green Shirt" or the like.

Oh, and does anyone know if there are any vests OTHER than the Huntsman's Vest? A vest would be cool.. but everything I've seen looks stupid.

Yeah, I just finished up that one a bit ago. Spoiler: It made me sad, though. :( I liked him. Didn't want him to die. I was actually wondering if there was any way to keep him alive. I know when my brother did it, he told the truth (that no one was spying on him) and Glarthir decided that he was a double agent and decided to kill the people himself. So when I went through it, I tried mixing it up, telling him one person wasn't spying on him and another was, but at the end he still decided the person I said was spying on him had to die. It probably isn't, but I just wanted to know if it was possible to keep him alive.

He is a doomed man. Either by your hand or the guards. Unless of course you take the option of killing his targets. Oh, and should I mention they are completely innocent? :D

 I don't like killing people.. I actually didn't want to do the Glarthir quest, because I didn't want him to die, so whenever I went to Skingrad, I would try to avoid him. It was actually really fun, running through town, leaping over fences, hiding.. He chases you. It's hilarious. I once hid in the Mage's Guild from him and sat down in a room next to the door, and I was looking through the (room) door at the front door, thinking I'd lost him, and suddenly his head appeared at the front door and he's like, "You! We need to talk!" and I was like, "Holy crap!" He scared the poo outta me. But yeah.. it's fun to just run away. And apparently you're only safe from him in the Mage's Guild if you go upstairs.

He's quite brazen for such a paranoid little fellow.

Like Belthan said, I've been finding these from some vampires in random caves. But it could also be a high lvl loot item, not sure. I got mine off of Vicenti while doing the DB.

Personally, I began finding this quest rather annoying. So this time around, I've tried to spend as little time in Skingrad as possible to keep him away. Only thing was, he looks for you regaurdless if you're invisible or not  but when I was warning him to keep his distance (I was saying outloud); one of my 'stray' arrows found its way to his juggular  & the best part, I never even got a bounty for it :D

Well, if you end up running low on sidequests, there's always the 18 some daedra quests. One of 'em I can recall playing a prank on the castle folk of Leyawin :) & other than those... there's always the Shivering Isles side quests.

Do you get Infamy points for doing those? Will people like you less? Are the Deadric quests considered "evil" ones? Spoiler: I didn't want to do the one that made me kill the unicorn.. I dunno. I like harmless fun side quests.

The last quest I did earlier, I hadda save 5 followers bcuz they 'tried' summoning Peryite but instead sent their own souls to oblivion. So that quest's pretty self explanitory... as for the others, some you're killing off necromancers (which I don't consider bad) & there's just different ones.

The 18th one - the very last 1 that requires you to finish all 17 first, you may not like. But if you do it stealthly, you can avoid a bounty or just resort to killing Vamps.

So, I think it determines 'how' you do the quests that signify whether or not its for fame or infamy. You can also do 'em in any order.

Ok. I didn't know for sure, because everyone considers the Deadra to be "bad" and "evil", so I thought doing their quests would be bad. There's probably no way to get around killing the unicorn though, huh?

Actually there are three 'Good' Daedra, Azura and Mephala are two of them, not sure who the third one is.

Technically, no. But I don't think the quest description specifies that it has to die by 'your' hands since the daedra asking for it only wants its horn. So I'm thinking the choices would be, by you, your summon(s), or ride it next to a bandit camp & let them provoke it. Although if it kills the bandit(s) then you may have to do it more than once

Or better yet, you could try riding him off a cliff... I don't think that'd actually be the quickest death though.

Are the Deadric quests considered "evil" ones?
The quests don't increase your infamy and I've never noticed if they affect NPC's disposition toward you. The quests (like the daedric princes themselves) are a mixed bag of good and evil.

The quests for Azura, Meridia, Peryite all have basically noble intent. The quests for Nocturnal and Vaermina aren't quite as altruistic but their goals are fair enough and you don't have to hurt any innocents to complete them.

Mephala, Molag Bal, and Namira are all quite distasteful for a good character, and Hircine isn't much better.

The rest are more or less neutral. Most people would react to Boethia's quest about the same as they'd react to the arena, for better or worse. Clavicus Vile's quest is tragic but not inherently evil. Malacath's quest isn't exactly noble, but it has a kind of poetic justice about it. Sanguine's quest is purely mischievous fun, while Sheogorath's quest is a more mean-spirited but ultimately harmless prank. Hermaeus Mora can go either way (you can do it without harming any innocents, or by harming a whole bunch of innocents, it's your call and Hermaeus Mora won't care).
Can the answer to this question be "No"?

Favorite Quest

I would also like to know how to activate the Knights of the Thorn quest if there is one, if anyone knows please enlighten. I have the GOTY version of the guidebook and I can find nothing about it in there.
Anyhoo, my favorite quest turned out to be the Thieve's Guild quest (forget the name) where you have to get the amulet back from the Countess of Leyawin. Most of the quests in the game are pretty straightforward, but this one took some real thought and hefty stealth skill. As a Vampire character, or anyone with a lengthy Detect Life spell, it is easier, but I love the whole secret passage and racist torture chamber theme they utilized. It was totally unexpected and actually kind of thrilling, especially after a 'spree' of the mindless slaughter involved in closing several Oblivion gates in a row.

Did you take the trouble to read this thread thoroughly? If you did, you would notice the answer you seek is in the second post. :p
