Uh?

Post by Hazy »

Just started a new game (this time playing a rogue instead of a fighter/divine champ tank for diplomacy). Problem is that my character is 2 levels behind Khelgar for some reason. Same exp amount though. Fixable?

What is your character race? This may affect your level. Look for level adjustment in the race description.

Level adjustment means you will level more slowly, but you'll still be able to reach the levelcap.

It does that? I'm playing a Drow Rogue atm. Would that be the reason why?

I assumed the level more slowly would only mean experience gain, yet Khelgar and my character's exp is exactly the same amount.

Drow have a -2 race adjustment, which means they're always going to be 2 levels behind characters with a regular race.

You really get to see this in effect during the Tutorial (West Harbor Fair).

It's really odd when your companions level up and you don't......

To do the racial adjustments (Aasimar have a +1) They just increased the Amount of EXP needed.

Indeed. But these races usually have pretty strong buffs which make up for the level difference. In the end I guess everything evens itself out.

racial bonuses are usually pretty useful at the start of the game where low numbers and few abilities exist. However, when all numbers are already high and you have lots of things to do, you can actually live without your racial darkness spell or already got an equipment giving bonus dexterity so your +1 modifier bonus doesnt really matter. Most useful racial properties are unique abilities like Spell Resistance imho. also depends on your choice. Would you rather have +2 caster level and bonus spells from caster levels or spell resistance or bonus spells and stuff by more stats? racial skill bonuses or simply more skill points by leveling? This is also very important in a class like monk where you constantly get abilities and especially very strong ones at higher levels (bonus SR, lots of saves and attacks, special abilities).
