Crafting arms and armor

Post by Rastamage »

I am disappointed by the EK chain shirt in the OC. I decided to alter it so that it fit my expectations better. I am in the process of removing the power attack bonus feat and the extra 3rd level slots.

Question 1: how many slots does armor get anyway? I'm unsure if in removing power attack and bonus 3rd for bard, wizard, and sorcerer if I removed 2 or 4 item bonuses.
Question 2: does the removing of arcane spell failure count as one of my slots?
Question 3: if I make the armor mithral instead of iron will that cost me an enhancement slot?
Question 4: do weapons and armor and misc items all have the same amount of enchancement slots available to them?

If it's easier to link me to a guide on this instead of answering my questions that's fine with me.

Edit: does adding limitations to an item increase its number of allowable enhancements?

I have not enchanted much amour, as I'm usually content with the ones you can get in the game already, but ...

1) As a weapon you get 3, and I would think that the same goes for armour. At least I've seen nothing to contradict that.

2) Haven't seen you could do this sort of enchantment on armour? What's the recipe for that?

3) Yes, just as it does with weapons.

4) As 1. Weapon and Armours all but 100% sure have the same amount of enchantments possible.

Unless they've changed in MoTB....
Question 1: how many slots does armor get anyway? I'm unsure if in removing power attack and bonus 3rd for bard, wizard, and sorcerer if I removed 2 or 4 item bonuses.
All weapons and armor get 3 slots. Some material properties consume a slot, some don't. So you will be getting 3 slots from basic iron/leather items, and 2-3 free slots if using other materials.
Question 2: does the removing of arcane spell failure count as one of my slots?
This would be for mithril armors? No. While Mithril costs a slot for its properties on weapons; mithril gives you all 3 slots on armor. If there's a recipie for this (which I'm not aware of) then I would think that it should. If it does not, then it's quite likely a bug.
Question 3: if I make the armor mithral instead of iron will that cost me an enhancement slot?
See above. I'm not sure why Xandax has a contradictory answer. I'm quite sure that Mithril's lightweight property costs a slot for weapons but not armor for all it's properties. I don't know why exactly, but I guess it's the way the weapon's simply get that property while armors become a new class on itself with it becoming a lighter class armor altogether. Of course, unless this has changed in MoTB...
Question 4: do weapons and armor and misc items all have the same amount of enchancement slots available to them?
Only weapons and armor, I'm sure has 3 slots. I'm not even sure if you can add additional enchantments (prior to expansion) to misc items.
Question 5: does adding limitations to an item increase its number of allowable enhancements?
Not that I know... no.

A weapon already has +2 To hit enhancement.

You add +5 to hit enhancement.

The result is +5 To Hit.

Is that 2 slots or 1 slot?

IIRC - then in the original NwN2 - that would be 2 enchantments. But I generally do all my enchantment from "base" items (cold iron weapons mostly)

The enchantment system is different in MotB, and there you definitely can replace one enchantment with a higher without "removing" a slot.
