I finally decided to do the one quest line I had never tried - the Mage's Guild. I am doing OK up to this point. I am now trying to open the hidden door in Vahtacan by throwing magic spells at the pillar. So far the sequence has been Fire, Frost, and Damage Magicka. Each time the walls have lowered part way. I need one more spell to finish the job. But every spell I have that enhances or fortifies Magicka applies only to myself. What spell do I need to open the pillar all the way? And where can I find it?
Oh - I did try a forum search on this one and found no result. Sorry if it is a redundant thread.

Mages Guild - Pillar of Vahtacan (Spoiler)
Any doctrine that will not bear investigation is an unworthy tenant of the mind of an honest man.
I think there's an elevate magicka scroll in the chest right outside the room. If not, you can try searching the GB spells database to see if anybody sells a fortify magicka spell. If all else fails... if you have another fortify spell in your inventory and if you have the Frostcrag Spire plug-in you can use the altar of spellmaking to create your own fortify magicka on target spell.
Can the answer to this question be "No"?

QFT. If you do have a savegame before you entered this particular ruin I'd recommend that. All the required scrolls can be found inside.Belthan wrote:I think there's an elevate magicka scroll in the chest right outside the room. Sage plays a paladin,
because other classes would be frowned upon for laying their hands on a wounded companion

Quest Problem
I can't seem to get this quest done. As soon as I step into the ruins a box appears that says " I have found something deep in the ruins, I should tell" whats-her-name. I go talk to her and she says at least some progress has been made. Denen (?) never asks me to get anything from her and she never offers anything. I've restarted the game. I have no idea what in my inventory is triggering the dialogue box. Any ideas?
