Help! Unable to launch P:T

Post by whymengy »

I've finished installing torment, but when i want to launch the game, an error message:

"An assertion failed in D:\Torment\Source\chitin\ChDimm.cpp at the line number 809"

I cant launch the game. Someone please help. I've tested on 3 different machines running on XP SP2. All come up with this error message after I finish installing and want to launch the game.

Please help me solve this problem. I've been waiting for ages to finally get a copy of this game.

Thanks!

Sounds like the only thing you can do is return this copy you apparently just bought, and get your money back. There are certainly other copies out there--try Amazon, in particular, since their policy guarantees the product against credit.

Hhmmm... Have you installed the patch and fanfixpack? Those might help.
Also, a description of your computer set up could be helpful. Someone said that Infinity-enige games don't like Dual Core processors. That might be the problem.

Solution found!

Fixing an Assertion Failed 809

I bought the 2CD version and whenever I tried to run the game the "An assertion failed.... 809". After some tweaking with the Torment.ini, I've managed to fix the error, and would like to share the method.
All you have to do is open up Torment.ini (in the directory where you've installed the game).

Under [Alias], I originally had:
CD
CD
CD
CD
HD0:=C:\Program Files\Black Isle\Planescape Tor

Then I changed the lines to:

CD1:=D:\CD2
CD2:=D:\CD2
CD3:=D:\CD2
CD4:=D:\CD2
HD0:=C:\Program Files\Black Isle\Planescape Torment

The commands after the four CD lines should be your drive containing the cd. Mine’s on D: so I put in D:\CD2

*I got this fix from one of the other forums online. I forgot where I got it, so I hope the original person who posted wouldn’t mind. Thanks!
