i was playing in multi the other day and met a guy who had lvled up to 50 in the arena, fighting that guy over and over. while i admire his patience and enthusiasm there are much better ways, imho.
eventually everyone's gotta go get the moonstone, right? while you're there why not kill some moonbeasts? they offer pretty good exp and the best part is you can kinda exploit them.
you know that altar where they spawn? raise your athletics to at least 4 and backflip all the way to the top, i promise it can be done. soon as you are safe, start picking them off with magic or a throw. if you are super noob, keep it on easy, but put it on hard for max exp, they're not gonna hit you anyway.:> if your throw or bow skills aren't very high it could take a while, but that can be remedied by putting it on easy till they are well in the red, save, put it on hard, and go back and finish them off.
some may say its kinda cheesey, but isnt exploiting the arena too? on hard you may spawn up to 8 moonbeasts at a time, and fairly quickly. also, if you can master the trippy throw weapon glitch from my last post, its fairly entertaining
good luck!
Quick Levels (merged)
quick lvls for not so noobs
once you get to shadow realm wind jumping area, there will be 6 athena bashers in that room. if you can kill all 6 it's good for about 3 lvls on hard setting, regardless of what lvl you already are. my reccomendation...
blast each one with shards of stone till they are ALMOST dead and save. hold onto that save for dear life and dont overwrite it. using LAN, go back and finish them off, save somewhere else, rinse and repeat. im sure someone has already posted about Lan farming but this is the best and fastest way ive found. i got so sick of, "lets go kill drakes" this is much, much faster. i can get a char with shards of stone up to about LVL 200 in a day in that fashion. :>
my on-line bud, khaos, uses an almost dead ghazbu the same way, but its only good for 1 lvl per trip. nice though if you get tired of looking at those stupid statues, lol
oh yeah, back to the bashers, when you first walk in that room, to the left of the portal, all the way in the corner, if you arcane is high enough, you can kill one more in the next room through the wall by blasting a cataclysm. every little bit helps when you farming :>

I think heading down to Skulldoon for some one on one action with that crazy minatour gladiator will also net you some levels. Heck! You can head down to Skulldoon as soon as Lord Davenmoore gives you permission to go to Arindale.
As soon as you get out through the southern gate, run like hell to skulldoon.
I gained a couple levels and got a Giant Crusher Mace for my troubles. The giant crusher mace is the best weapon one can get at *that* point in the game, assuming you're able to handle heavy weapons. It makes going through the trial of the ancients that much easier.

-darkpark Brap on!
If you fight them late in your career you can put it on hard and fight them melee. When 7 or 8 show up cast cataclysm.
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.
