Pleasantly suprised by this game.

I recently picked up a copy of Dungeon Lords CE off the bargain rack at Wal-Mart for $10. Before I started playing it I read a couple of reviews of the game which were pretty bad. So I wasn’t expecting much. But so far, I have been very pleasantly surprised. I’m having a lot of fun playing this game!

I have a Level 10 Marauder. He’s wearing full plate armor and dual wields the Elven Sword of Speed and Elven Blood Dagger. I’m really enjoying this character.

Performance wise, the game seems very stable (it hasn’t crashed on me at all). Although it does “freeze” for a couple of seconds whenever a random encounter spawns. I’ve gotten used to that, and it let’s me know I’m about to get ambushed, LoL.

Game play wise, the controls are pretty straight forward, I like the way they implemented traps and locks. The combat is fun, and the quests and storyline are interesting. All in all, a very enjoyable RPG and I’m glad I picked it up.

I've noticed the same thing and came to same conclusion as you. I agree with you on your evaluation of the game. My only complaint is that the Rogue class is the only one able to identify stuff. Makes for more challenges trying to get a Fighter thru to a merchant using his starting weapon and armor. :)

For me, the issue with this game was that they sold it first as an unfinished version, you didn't even have an automap. When they finally had finished it, after two patches, they sold it anew - as the CE. So wanting to enjoy the game to the full without the feeling of missing out on things, I had to buy it twice.

As for bugs - just you wait. Saving and reloading in the arena for example got me stuck there for good, I had to go back to an earlier save and do the whole enchantress-quest all over again.

But apart from that - bugs just happen - it is an extremely enjoyable game.
