Hi, All!
Carol here again with another game. I started playing Morrowind a long time ago but got tired of all the lagging with movement of my character. Actually, I wasn't very knowledgeable about patches and what they do. I am more informed now but still not very good at playing RPG games without walkthroughs, etc. Is there a patch for Morrowind that will improve movement in the game? Before, I did not have XP so I thought I would try Morrowind again on my updated computer. Can anyone answer my question about a patch? All of you have been so very helpful in the past and I really appreciate it.
Thanks.
Carol

The reason Morrowind often lags is because the system requirements are so high for a game of its age..
It would probably help if you posted your system specs, and we could go from there.
If it is just that your character was moving slowly simply because, then that does change as your speed improves.
Regarding patches, I don't know if they really do anything related to movement, but they should be installed regardless because they repair a lot of bugs. The patches you need will depend on the version of Morrowind you own.
If you just have Morrowind.. than all you need is the official Morrowind patch.
If you have the Game of the Year edition which includes both expansions, you need to install in the following order:
1. Morrowind
2. Tribunal
3. Bloodmoon
4. Bloodmoon patch
Note: You do not need either the Morrowind or Tribunal patches if you have Bloodmoon, only use the Bloodmoon patch.

Thanks for the information. I have Morrowind and both expansions packs. Now can you direct me to where I can download the patches? Also, can I load all three games at once or play one at a time? Is there a difference in the games play out? I know I am still kind of stupid when it comes to playing these games but I so enjoy playing them that I just keep on truckin'. I hope that you all can bear with me with my questions even though I should figure some of these things myself. After all, I am 64 years old so maybe I can't absorb all the new things that I need to know as quickly as I should. Thanks again.

The Elder Scrolls
You'll need to scroll toward the end of the page, past all of the Oblivion stuff. Do note that the patches have both European and North American versions, so be sure to download the right one.
It is in fact highly recommended that you install Morrowind and both expansions at once, for several reasons. One, it makes the journal *much* more straightforward to use. Two, you will be able to annotate the local map. Three, if you feel adventurous, there are some really great player-made plug-ins (mods) that require at least one of the expansions, if not both.
It's really easy to install the game, expansions and patch. Just do it in the order I mentioned above.
And don't worry about the questions, especially if you are asking things that can't easily be found in the search data base, people here are generally pretty friendly.

Morrowind
Hi!
Carol here. Just wanted to let you all know that Morrowind runs great on my Windows SP - no more lagging. I haven't loaded the 2 expansions yet because I wanted to see how Morrowind ran on XP. Can I now load the expansions even though I have started Morrowind? Thanks for all your help.

I found MW to be a fairly forgiving game, (I've been playing it for about 6 years now) with a couple of exceptions you can generally load expansions or mods at any time and just continue your existing game, although it's always a good idea to make a back-up first. Similarly you can just un-check the box in the data files to stop them being active. Quite often you will get a warning message after you have loaded a mod that tells you that the game has changed and do you wish to continue, just keep hitting the yes button until the error messages stop (or go into your MW ini. file and enable "Yes to All" that way you only hit the button once) Once the game has loaded then save again and it will cure the error messages.
