Where's the PDF manual???

Post by Microsoft_Bob »

Hi guys,

Sorry that my first post is like this, but I'm pissed off as heck this morning.

I just bought this game at Wal-mart yesterday, and waited to install it until this morning. The install went ok, but when I tried to download the manual that they listed on the little card that came with my game, it turns out that it's a broken link.

So, then I went to their official website. No manual there.
I go to their FAQs. No help there about manuals.
I click on the 'game guide' link on their site, and it brings me to your site.
I check the download section of both their site and yours. No manual.
I search your FAQ section. Nothing about manuals.
I try to use the search feature on your forum, but get nothing but errors.

So I've now been looking for a manual for this game for over a half hour now and I'm not in a good mood. So I have to ask, where in the f is this mf game's manual at??? (pardon my french).

Thanks for any help, and again sorry my first post has to start out this way. I'm not usually this pissed.

I don't have a manual either. You start out and there is a help section explaining all the buttons. You can always make this appear or dissapear by pressing '?' (literally press the question mark on your keyboard)

Basicly you do quests, roam the country, explore dungeons, and kill monsters.

You start out and pick a race and class: adept, mage, thief, fighter. Later you will pick a second class of those four (or a sisterhood class but thats only if your female and find the sisterhood!) From the basis of your classes you choose ascensions and in the end you have your original 2 first tier classes plus 2 second tier classes that stem from the first tier. Example a mage can ascend to sorceror but a thief can't (they ascend to trickster or Hunter) See the classes section of gamebanshee for more information.

The big deal of a class is: New abilities, Learning Bonuses (makes it less costly to advance in that skill), items that drop off the ascension quest boss, your guild sells more items/spells, and heraldry (a flag on your character sheet that grants powers etc)

To even start a class you need to meet requirements in your skills and ability scores. When you go to the character sheet you can spend the points you earn (for killiing monsters) to increase your abilities. You will also do this at character creation. Key point: intelligence makes things cheaper by a minor amount so get the intelligence you need early. Each skill/ability gets more and more costly the more ranks you have (but it gets more powerful)

Some skills unlock powers example athletics gives you jumping dodges at various ranks. Some don't seem to work right. Some are special like repair and identify. Some allow you to equip weapons and armor without penalty.

Its intuitive but you might have some questions. If you get stuck just post a question on the forum.

One last thing. To load save games it only seems to work if you exit to the games start menu then load from there. So if you die you have to reload (after exiting first). There is a way to come to life again but I think you lose points you earned.

I hope this helps
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.

Claudius has it correct. :)

Moreover, the manual is nearly useless. This sites companion section is actually better at detailing virtually all aspects of the game (including character creation) than the guide (which I have).

http://www.gamebanshee.com/dungeonlords/

In particular look first at the class section here:

http://www.gamebanshee.com/dungeonlords/classes.php

Carefully read the accompaniment to that page. In addition carefully read the classes requirements, learning bonuses, and new skills for any class you might be interested in - ESPECIALLY in relation to other classes. As Claudius states: its a BIG DEAL. (i.e. if you want to use a magic weapon yet never choose a class with the new skill "magic weaponry" then you are SOL. Likewise if you want to progress to a class that requires a skill level in heavy armor but none of your classes have heavy armor as a new skill - then again, you are SOL.)

The big things to look at in character creation are:

Class structures in relation to requirements, learning bonuses, new skills, diabolic skills, and heraldries.

Btw, I hope it was the Collectors Edition you purchased, if not you might want to consider returning it.

If you installed the game already, the PDF manual can be found on your hard drive at C:\Program Files\Dreamcatcher\Dungeon Lords (if default install location). There are a lot of files in that folder so the easiest way to find the PDF manual is to sort by file type. Since it is an adobe acrobat file it will show up just below the file folders.
