Shadowdancers
Shadowdancers
I reinstalled NWN2 for some extensive class-lobotomizing. Here's the thing, what kind of tactical advantage does a Shadowdancer have in party and 1-on-1 combat? As far as I can tell from the description they are really good at not getting involved in anything. How does that help? I suspect the trick lies in correctly dualclassing them, but how exactly should one do that?
I could use some ideas.

some multiclass options
there are actually a few options for the dual classing them. If you are going to be more combat oriented then consider using fighter, ranger ( with two weapon style), or even a rogue for even more sneak attack.
But my personal favorite is Ranger with Archery style. This will allow you the go around in combat and attack when you want. Plus if you are at the right angle and are within a certian range you'll get a sneak attack.
another archery option involves the arcane archer, but they have their own requirements so i wont go into it.

Shadowdancers don't have a whole lot of combat abilites as part of their class, but they do provide some excelent abilities for a dexterity based combatant. If I am not mistaken Shadow Dancers get Uncany Dodge, Evasion, and Hide in Plain Sight by 2nd level! These are some of the most useful special feats if you have high dexterity.
Traditional dexterity based classes (Rogue, Ranger) usually get some of these abilities anyway and so the Shadow Dancer might not appeal as much. However, a dexterity based Fighter or even a Bard could significantly benefit from at least 2 Shadow Dancer levels. The Hide in Plain Sight is also useful for backstab classes such as Blackguard, Assasin, and Neverwinter Nine (I think).

I haven't played it in NWN2 yet, admittedly, but whenever I do a rogue-build in NWN1, I mix in one level of Shadow Dancer just for Hide in Plain Sight. With your Hide and Move Silently feats high enough, you're literally invisible, though I suspect that this ability is mostly wasted in NWN2, since all enemies want to talk to you and seem to see you by default, anyway.

assassin vs shadow dancer
personally i found that the assassin is much better that the shadow dancer at dealing pure damage, plus it will upgrade your sneak attack damage and provide a stun. They also will get HiPS ( the body part) at level 8 with a +4d6 S.A. damage at level 7 (+5d6 at level 9) and their requirements are a lot easier to get without gimping your build. There is no real reason to go past level 9 assassin, unless you want an extra +1 on you saves vs poison bringing it to +5 instead of +4 ( not a huge difference seeing as i don't remember a lot of poison in O.C.)
to sum up, the shadow dancer is more of a casting rogue way to go, with its spells not being too effective (damage wise).
and the assassin is your pimped out rogue with super sneak attack for enough damage (especially if you dual wield).
** if you really want to cast offensive spells and have your rogue too, then arcane trickster is for you.
this is my opinion on the matter, feel free to argue everyone has different opinions, but don't go looking for a huge debate cause I'm not in the mood
stupid duelist class and their amazing potential but crappy precise strike.
