Neverwinter Nights2 bad upgrade 1.05

Post by kahelag »

Hi, I just upgraded my game to ver.1.05 and found that it is worst then the original, but then I just started this game. Ex. shooting bottles at the tournament. I point at a bottle (far right) and my character goes around the fence. I shoot at a bottle on the left and she goes to the other side of the fence, why??? It take a very long time to fire a crossbow?? these are only a few annoying problems. I also open the console and the commands do not work?

According to GB News, there are a lot of issues with the 1.0.5 patch and they have therefore pulled the patch and are no longer distributing it. They are working on fixing this patch and then will re-release it. In the meantime, you may have to revert back to using the 1.0.4 patch which means you may have to reinstall the game - if you do then just remember to back up your saves folder to somewhere like My Documents so you do not lose your save games :)

I'm not sure how their save files work, but

If you update to 1.05, are you saves updated to that version?
If so, when you back them up and reinstal (to 1.04), wouldn't your saves still be 1.05?

Hopefully the saves don't have anything to do with versions, so there would be no problem.

I have transferred saves to other computers running different versions with no problems. I expect you should be able to as well.

Saves and Game Versions

Your saves are safe from any changes in the version you are running. All saves from v1.04 will still be 1.04 saves because the version is logged in the save file at the time when you save it. Updating only effects any future saves at the time they are saved and so v1.05 saves won't work under any earlier versions.

If you load a v1.04 save while running v1.05 and save it back onto the same file name as the v1.04 save you have just changed that v1.04 save to a version 1.05 save. Use a new slot and save your earlier version save so that if you are having problems with the update you will still have a fallback file.

'mr_sir' mentioned to save your save file to a different location and recommended saving it in My Documents folder. I know from personal experience just how good that recommendation is. I was playing a game and did an update to a newer version only the patch had a bug in it that rendered the game unplayable. I uninstalled the game and then reinstalled the game and did all the safe updates. I started the game expecting to load a game from where I left off only to find that the uninstall had also removed all of my save games and that was about seven years ago.

I have been ever since saving three of my save games to a folder in My Documents before doing any updates. I have created a folder in My Documents called 'Saved Games' just for this purpose. The Saved Games folder contains saves from any game I am currently playing and currently hold files from three games each carefully labled to the game name and then a folder inside the game folder I create another folder and lable that something like 'Saves v.1.04'. I simply copy and paste my last three saves from the actual Save folder and paste them into the correct folder. I do the same just before Chapter or Act ends because I hate to have to start a game over from scratch and it allows me to replay a game from that point in case I want to try my character with a modified build.

I save my game just before the end game cut scenes in case an expansion comes out and I can use the same party. When I am all done with a game I delete that games folder freeing up some hard drive space. I have never regretted starting this practice.
