Trouble allowing screenshots

Post by wing »

It worked fine before, but now we have a new computer so I had to start Morrowind over. No big deal, really. Except now it won't let me enable screenshots. If I try to change that 0 to a 1 in the ini file, then save, it doesn't let me save. It says:

Cannot create the C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind\Morrowind.ini file.

Make sure that the path and file name are correct.

Anyone know how to fix it? I have the newest Morrowind patch, if you want a mod list, i dont think it would matter but it might. If it does, tell me. And the new computer is Vista, which has been giving me nothing but crap since we got it. That might be the only problem. Anyway, can anyone here help?

I got it fixed. I put the one in, saved in a different folder, then copy and pasted it back in place of the original. Now i just need to test it, but i dont see any reason this wont work.

well, it's been tested and it still doesn't allow screenshots, but the line is changed to enable screenshots=1. no, it's not a second file like it, it has the same name as the original. the only difference between it and the original is the line that enables screenshots. help?

If you change that line in your .ini file to:

Screen Shot Enable=1

it should work. I just pasted the above directly from my own .ini, and I have no problem at all taking screenshots.
Have you replaced the entire line? You don't still have "Screen Shot Enable=0" anywhere on there do you?

Take the line I posted above and paste it into your own .ini file, make sure you first delete whatever is on that line currently.

thats exactly what's there. i haven't a clue why it won't work. it might be because of the stupid security thing on vista, which doesnt let me change hardly anything without the administrator's password(eg my parents') but it doesn't ask for the password when i do this. anyway, is there a console code for it? or a different place in the ini file to change so that it doesn't try to save the pictures in that folder?

Ah....
You know, it would not surprise me if this is directly a Vista problem.
I just did a bit of a Google search, and at least some people report compatability problems between Vista and Morrowind...
You may want to consider posting this in the Tech forum...

If it is possible (I'm no techie, so I'm not sure), I'd suggest maybe partitioning your hard drive so that part of it runs XP, and then when you want to game.. just boot up the XP part of it.

that was weird...

I opened the file to look and make sure it was set to 1, and it was. Then I closed the file, opened it again, and it was at 0. I changed it to 1 and it saved fine. And now screenshots work! No clue what happened... It works now though. :D
