Dual Wieldin

Post by Seabass »

Yeah Valygar is dual wielding the daystar and the celestial fury right now, is alright since the max proficiency on any weapon he has is 2 ( on long swords n katanas ). Anyone have any other ideas on what I can do to make him better in a fight. And one thing, are there any good axes in the game? Cuz Korgan is still running around with his Frostreaver + 3, and I cant seem to find anything worthy an upgrade. So just tell me if you know any sick weapons I can use, loading up for Irenicus.

Been through the game twice and have yet to find a really decent axe. I figure on of the bonus merchants or even Ribald may have one, but I found more use in Planescape for an axe versus BG2.

As far as Valygar goes, leave him with those weapons, maybe switch daystar for something else later, but other than that the only thing I can think of is just to level up. He's pretty sweet at higher levels, but proficiency wise is terribly limited.

Yeah I already checked that axe... its a shame that evil characters cant use it. And as you know it doesnt come more evil than Korgan. Im trying to remember the name of that other throwing axe I have.... I think you get it in the sewers or something. I duno. Well KOrgans got that one too so hes fairly good medium range too.

concerning axes: there are only few good axes in the game and nothing better than +3:
Axe of Hrothgar+3 (+1 WIS/CHA)
BattleAxe+3
Frostreaver+3 (you already know)
Stonefire+3 (same as Frostreaver but fire)
Azuredge (not for Korgan anyway)
Hangard's Axe+2 (nice throwing axe)
Rifthome+3 (throwing axe, my suggestion for Korgan, check the Gamebanshee's equipment section for location)
...btw. it's a shame you can't dualwield throwing weapons like Hangard's Axe AND Rifthome, that would be a killer...
once observed a wierd thing: my fighter using Hangard's Axe and inflicting about 20 dam. without a critical, so this seems to be a bug that STR-bonuses are also added for missile attacks, check this out with the two throwers...

No ERROR ON the Strength Bonuses being used for axes as they are THROWN. This is standard per AD&D rules.

I usually change his daystar with his family blade because it acts more rounds. I have lots of wizards die when they got kicked by the poison. It is extremly much fun if you kick the mage and then his contengensies (don't mind the spelling) kick of and then they have casting failure because of the poison.

Strength bonus for the damage (not to hit) do apply to thrown weapons. To hit boni is calculated for dexterity. Strength damage boni usually don't count if you are using bow or xbow, but for some special made bows the strength damage bonus apply also.
No bug, it's intended.

As far as axes are concerned, I'm doing fine. I have Minsc equipped with Stonefire and Frostreaver, and he's awesome! Great for lich killing...the axes' elemental attacks go right through that pesky absolute immunity! Only problem is no shield means instant death if surrounded... so I put Jaheira in the lead (great armor class, virtually unhittable), and let Minsc take out the baddies that inevitably swarm her.
