Is it just me, or does NWN2 seem almost exactly like the original NWN? Dont get me wrong, I am by no means complaining. I probably had atleast 500 hours playing NWN over the years.
But, everything seems to be the same, or very near it anyway. I suppose they have the right idea though. "If it's not broken, don't fix it.".
Just wondering what your opinions were on it.

Similarities Between NWN and NWN2?
I haven't played NWN2 yet, but if they keep the basics the same then I'll be happy as I still love playing NWN +expansions. The only things I am hoping that they have improved are the storylines and the dialogue choices, and alignment change opportunities. They are the things that I felt lacking in NWN. Better henchman/NPC interaction is another thing I'm hoping they have improved. But as far as general gameplay, I see no problem if this is similar to NWN, as long as the AI is a bit better this time
I can't really compare them, gameplay wise that is. I tried getting into NWN once, but then I was already spoiled by KOTOR. I just wasn't "pulled in" enough to like it. NWN2 on the other hand has no problem there. That might say something, I dunno.

In my opinion, the alignment changes were awfully frequent in NWN, and they are the same in NWN2. Dialogue, to me, is somewhat confusing when speaking with your henchmen. As in NWN you have quests for each henchmen to do. Well, I assume that you do anyway, as Kelghar has one. Everyone else's hasn't shown up in my journal yet, but the fact that Kelghar's has, keeps me hopeful.

Do you mean Henchmen interacting with NPC's, or interaction with both from the player? Either way, AI seems to be rather good. Henchmen use potions, cast spells, and conversate among themsevles. However, the AI does need a little work. Very minor stuff really. In fact, I've only had one issue with the AI a couple of times. Entering a area, or, after using an interactive object that triggers a cutscene, my henchies will just sorta stand there. No matter how far away I get, they wont follow. Have to run back to them, and give them a command to attack nearest, or to follow me. Either will work. But all and all, I feel it's improved.
I think it's a little bit like comparing Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2, of course it's kind of the same as it uses the same ruleset, has the Forgotten Reams/D&D background and so on. In my opinion NWN 2 is by far better then NWN, the scenery is a lot better ( so far ), the only drawback I have encountered is that you can't buy stacks of items ( like 10 potions in one buy ) but you have to buy them one by one.
Otherwise...if the game goes on like it's now, I love it, much more enchanting then Oblivion.

For what little my opinion's worth, I do think the initial setup for the plot is handled bettered, less of a cliche, in NWN2 than in NWN. Also, the quests are better integrated. There's less of the "hi, you're obviously new here and without skills, but I'm going to tell you a secret that could get me killed and see if you'll help me instead of a merc I can buy."
So far, the game feels far more linear than NWN, unfortunately, but then, I'm only in the early stages of chapter 1. I hope that changes.
Party NPCs can accept stacked commands, in a system like the KotoR series.
I like the new look to the inventory system, but the Character Panel doesn't please me, at all.
I hate the way the cutscenes prevent you from selecting a party leader and keeping them in front. After a cutscene, your PC is always at the front, which is really great if they're a weak spellcasting type.

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
