It would be interesting to have a poll on whether or not having to pass through sections where the ability to jump from point to point is good in a game.
Personally, I found those sections really annoying and if it hadn't been for the hints in these forums I would have probably given the game away well before the end.
Something of the degree of difficulty of jumping in the final room of the Daedroth temple is OK, but the section before it with the crumbling walkways and the Shadow Ruins.......!!!!!!!
Perhaps it would be better to have these sections just to get to rooms with chests containing special equipment or spells or to fight monsters that have good hit points. That would be OK as then they would be optional.
But when they are necessary to get through the main story line of the game I think they can ruin an RPG game for many people.
Personally I think that the jumping and puzzle stuff in DungeonLords is good, after all: Why shouldn't Spoiler

try to protect himself and the relic as much as he can? The first time I had to pass through that room it took me about 5 minutes, but then I've realised I needed that shadow stone to get to the chess puzzle (wich I BTW, like vrey much). So I had to go back, next time I passes through that room it took me 15 minutes, don't know if it's just me being lucky...
Wouldn't it be kind of brainless if we just had to kill stuff without having any minor intellectual problems? It's good that we have to figure out some things on our own that don't just include clicking that mouse button...
It wasn't having to use my brain that worried me, more the physical process of jumping.
Maybe it's an age difference! but I had trouble making the jumps and kept falling short and having to re-load. (Not as fit as I used to be!)
I haven't played the "action" style games, so the whole process was very difficult for me.
Still, it's good to see that others enjoyed it.
My arcane magic level was causing such devastation by the end of the game it was almost too easy to take out opponents, but after all the frustration of the different jumping bits, I was ready to annhilate anything that moved!
I totaly aggree with you. The acid room (in shadow ruins) really ruined the game for me --- I have not been able to pass it yet.
Otherwise, I have been able to access pretty much very other area (including freeing Ellowyn).
I'm not a teenager anymore, but still enjoy RPGs --- maybe my fingers just don't move well enough anymore.
I've seen only ONE person that has claimed to have made it past the acid room. I never did, without using a Crystal of Time. Even with that, took me awhile to learn that you have to jump from the corner of a platform to the corner of the next one till you're past the last one.
Before entering the acid room, activate a time crystal, then enter. quickly go to the right against the wall and face the pit. As soon as the farthest platform starts down, run/jump to the first one and it will rise out of the acid beneath you. Landing on it's lower right corner area. quickly turn left and run/jump from upper left corner. Get the idea?
