Multiplayer use and build

Hello.

I am planning to start a multiplayer game with a friend and so a couple of questions came up.
1.) What sort of character is the fastest? As I heard somebody say that every type of character (Human, elf, etc.) has a speed limit. I am planning to become a Ninja Lord so I wandered...
2.) I heard you have to enter the cd key to plan through the gamespy servers, but do you have to if you are going to use the direct IP type? My friend used MY cd to get Dungeon Lords so will it be possible to play multiplayer with him?
3.) What would be the best sort of character for a Rogue/adept/budoka/paladin/Ninja Lord build?

Thanks, but I think I'll make a wylvan, he looks like a werewold and that's something to frighten my softminded enemies...
Does anybody know wether my friend can play multiplayer with me if he got the game from me?
