Your Experiences with the Supernatural, Unnatural, or Otherworldly

Post by blake »

Hi, I figure I'd start a thread to talk about peoples experiences with ghosts, monsters, aliens, or anything else strange you'd like to talk about. I figure I'll start off with two of my most strange things.

First, my house is haunted, I am almost sure of it. My door will open if it doesn't close all the way, which can be done pretty easily. A while ago, I got annoyed that it would always pop open, so I slowly taught myself to fully close it everytime, so now I have trained myself pretty well, and I make sure to close it every time. Then one day, while sleeping, my door comes all the way open, I mean I saw the door handle open and everything. The only other person in my house is my dad, and he sleeps on the other side of the house.

He swears up and down that it wasn't him, I was skeptical at first, but then it happened a few more times. This isn't nearly as strange as some of the other things. While in my house, out of the corner of our eyes, my dad and I will see ghostly figures, when we turn to look at them they seem to dissapear. Now if only one of us saw them it would be left to our imaginations, but we both see them. Pretty creepy.

The worst thing, is me having electronic things turned on in the middle of the night. The first was my speakers on my computer. There is a little green light that turns on to let you know the speakers are on, it really bothers me at night, so I always turn it off before I lay down to go to bed. One night it turns on while I am sleeping. You have to physically turn a switch and lock it into place to turn it on. It's not like it could have just slid on. Very scary.

However, the scariest ghost encounter that has happened in my house has to be when my strobe light came on in the middle of the night. This strobe light hadn't been on in over a year, and it just randomly comes on in the night. Let me just say that I almost wet myself. I have accepted the fact that my house is haunted, and as long as the spirit doesn't cause me any real harm, I won't try to get it out of my house.

Even more strange, and really unexplainable is what I can only describe as my encounter with a bigfoot type creature, on the way back from a concert last sunday, my father, my sister and I were in my truck coming down the road to get to my house, when some sort of creature on the side of the road ran out in front of us.

This was no normal creature, the first thing my dad said when he saw it was "sasquatch," until I heard him say this I thought I was just seeing things, making a dog seem like more than it was, but it wasn't a dog. It looked more like a monkey, or a gorilla, it walked on it's knuckles with really big front arms and really small back legs, it had broad shoulders and took up about half of the highway we were traveling on.

That isn't even the worst part. It non chalantly walked in front of my truck, all the while looking into the cab. I'm hoping it was the reflection of the headlights, but they looked really red, and for a couple of days anytime I tried to close mine, I saw it looking at me. It had me seriously spooked.

After it went in front of us, it just sat on the side of the road and watched us pass. It had to be the scariest thing I have ever seen in my life.

Driving the short remaining way home, my dad and I described what both of us saw, and it was the same thing, an apelike creature with a very human face. My sister was with us but she didn't see it, so she thinks we are making it up.

Anyone else have any story's to tell?

And please don't try to persuade me against my beliefs with seemingly rational explanations, I consider myself pretty rational, but after witnessing the things I have, I don't really think they can be described any other way. Unless of course you heard of an escaped gorilla running around South Texas, then feel free to point me to the news article, to ease my fears. :D

This could be simply the air flow. It happens whenever we have any window or door ect open. As for the door knob turning it could be any number of things, which one do you have?

This could be a number if things as well. All devices that are plugged into a socket can turn on under the right conditions. I know in texas they have some power problems because the state is so damn big. It could be as simple as the electrical prones barely touching the socket and the air flowing turning them on. I mean the most problems I have with my cable modem is at night time, I just don't think there is a ghost behind it.

Could have been an illegal alien (is that better?)

I am wondering if you are just looking for people to support your beliefs. Which is in no offense many people tend to do this. But I am more of a Scully then a Mulder, I still *want* to believe but I am ruled with logic and reason.

A buddy of mine swears that he has seen a yeti (which is like a big foot). I don't think I believe that because he is such a burntout stoner. I mean he ran to his jeep and locked the doors.

Well I'm a Mulder in my beliefs but Scully in my approach to it.

Much to my regret, no unexplained phenomena in my life. Some strange ones yes, but nothing unexplainable through good old science. Anyway, I think in general if something cannot be explained by science, it just means science isn't there yet but will be at one point in time. As I said, I am a Mulder - I believe in what we call 'aliens' of the ET kind, but proof, real proof that they are 'here' and not the tales. The tales do us a disservice :) Again, no offense here either, but scientific proof or nothing for me.
And He whispered to me in the darkness as we lay together, Tell Me where to touch you so that I can drive you insane; tell Me where to touch you to give you ultimate pleasure, tell Me where to touch you so that we will truly own each other. And I kissed Him softly and whispered back, Touch my mind.

My house was built in 1896, but there has been a household here for at least 200 years, and when we moved in, I found the gravestone of a five year old boys grave, don't know where the grave is though, he died in 1888. His ghost may be haunting my house, noises and such, hasn't caused me much trouble or dread.

Let's see where to start...

A friend's daughter was killed in a car accident last year. A few weeks after the funeral, I invited her and some other friends over to my house. I was taking pictures on my digital camera, and when I looked at them on the computer, there was a huge orb by my friend's shoulder. Some believe that orbs in photos are spirits. Well, I went back to my living room and took the picture again--different day, but same lighting conditions--and could not make the orb reappear.

A bird woke me up one night, by tapping on my bathroom window and chirping, I looked at the clock, it was 12:17. My mom called the next day to tell me my grandmother had died around quarter after twelve the night before. I thought this was a strange coincidence, since the same thing had happened the night my cousin was killed a year before that.

I don't have a time for stories now, that will come later. But those interested can read up in the linky from my signature;

one or some of the replies to this article talk about experiencing 'the beginning' and/or 'zooming out from a one place' to 'beyond comprehension'
umm, yeah... time factor!

Orbs = dust (or anything of the like in the air). Dust + camera flash = how it happens. Proven fact.

I do believe humans are evolving to the point of being able to feel someone close die.

I remembered another one:

I thought my college apartment was haunted. My cat would start growling at things I couldn't see, and her head would move like she was watching something walk through the room. It was a scary building anyway, very old, and run down, no A/C, and it was a lease violation to be caught going into the basement! But, they allowed cats!!

People are designed to notice coincidences. So if a bird tapped on your window at 12.17 on a normal night, you'd just forget it, but if something significant happened, you would remember...

Not all of them, I know that from first hand experience. I have a bird outside my window that actually sings or something every single night. It's actually annoying when you're trying to sleep :)
Nightingale?
No, probably Gene Vincent's Be-Bop-A-Lula.

Ahem. Anyway, the reason I haven't posted to this thread is that I don't believe in the "supernatural." I think all sorts of things are perfectly natural, and that we simply lack the sensory devices (most of us, most of the time) to perceive them. And I also believe that if you can't provide objective evidence of such things, there's no use discussing them. I've had plenty of experiences, both inside ritual circles and out, with great detail, conversations, lots of travel, sensory overload, etc, but putting these down in cold print makes them look silly. Suffice to say, if you really want to go after this, there are plenty of ways to do it.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

I generally agree with this.
I also believe that the reason more nomadic cultures tend to have heightened perceptual facilities is because they are often intrinsic to survival in a natural environment. IMO, the more urbanised a culture becomes, the more it loses touch with those instinctual, difficult to define, abilities.

As far as my own encounters...yes.. I have touched things beyond the immediately tangible or "rational." But, as Fable says, it's difficult to discuss something so lacking in actual substance without appearing silly. Plus, most of what I have experienced is far too personal to talk about. ;)

@Jon Irenicus,
well some of it has to do with reading Tarot... The cards have always been frighteningly --sometimes chillingly-- accurate for me...

Also, just events surrounding deep connections with close friends.

Poor you, try having koalas outside your window. If you've never heard, let me tell you, they snort extremely loud.

...Then, in the mornings, having kookaburras, even worse.
In memorian: Fiona; Ravager; Lestat; Phreddie; and all of those from the 1500 incident. Lest we forget.
