Is Eldamil savable? (spoiler)

At the end of the game in the flooded grotto you run into Eldamil, he helps you but he was killed by Mankar Camoran after I killed Raven and Ruma. He was attack before I could do anything. I was just wondering if he was savable or dose Mankar Camoran always kill him. If he is savable, what happens to him when you kill Mankar Camoran?
