What kind of character?

Post by Kipi »

Ah, finally Fallout: Tactics got it's share from this this site. :)

So, what kind of characters do you use while playing?

I myself usually create a character which is dedicated to throwing and big guns. He is using grenades and such as main weapon, and big guns when grenades aren't that usable (in close combat and so on...)

I make a character that's designed for long range surpressive fire and usually solo work.

Traits: Gifted and Fast Shot
Tags: Small Guns, Energy Weapons and Steal
Stats: I forget, but usually max Intelligence, max Agility and High Luck. Contrasted by low endurance and negligable charisma.

I usually tag Small Guns, Energy Weapons and Steal for my base set and concentrate heavily on small guns until energy weapons are available. About then I upgrade to energy weapons and turn my character into both a long range sniper and close range assault soldier.

I regulary have Thief and Increased Rate of Fire as a perk, then follow with all the critical type perks after.

Good thing about concentrating in this style is picking off people while out of danger, especially those with heavy weapons. It also tends to let my character snipe with shotguns, which is very satisfying.

The most entertaining way to kill people is with a fast weapon like a P220 or a Small Energy Pistol and just laying down crippling fire at moderate range. It's pretty hilarious to watch my character firing 1 action point shots at an enemy and constantly crippling limbs, knocking them over or unconcious, while the enemy never manages to fire off a shot of their own.

I used something similar to the previous poster when I played - mostly a sniper type of character.
High perception (8+), max agility(10) and decent luck(6+) at the expense of strength, endurance and charisma. And then left over in intelligence for thoese skill points.

Usually took small guns and 2 other misc. skills and then picked energy weapons with the tag perk. (I think it is called)

Long range appeals to me, and then have the "cannonfodder" running in with burst fire to kill stuff. The first couple of missions before you get decent gun (and skill points) can be tricky though.

I like to experiment myself.

I Kamakazee and gifted in one game, went melee and I was like OK! lets hide let the other members die first :P

But seriously I think if you tag small guns, big guns, and some utility skill like Steal, Traps, doctor. You should be good. Rocketlauncher is like a must ASAP because with high perception and fast shot trait youll be a unstoppable mofo. I know I sniped a few times with a rocket launcher and it was hilarious watching Mutants explode :) .

However in my current game I tagged gifted and fast shot, then tag small guns and energy weapons and I was unstoppable *Cheated to get my bigguns up* but the point is that having small guns proves to be the bomb till you get energy weapons.

Tho atm im using a browning and leaving my party at the LZ :) , and then run around sniping with the browning lol.

But the shotgun is GREAT! to snipe with :) . TRUST ME!!!, single shot use it to snipe with a range of 30+ with good skill and right stats, you can kill 1 or 2 mutants together in 1 or 2 shots. Or if there in a line Burst mode and take out 5 mutants or reavers :) . Done it before too, funny how it turned out :D .

But the Shotgun is the best weapon till energy weapons.

Actually, basing on my experience, Shotgun isn't best weapon till energy weapons. Combat Shotgun is alright, but especially when dealing with super mutants, big guns are quite must. The only weapons other than CS or Sniper Rifle which are good enough to actually kill those creatures are mostly big guns. Also, grenades are somewhat usefull.

The problem with most small guns and close combat weapons is that you tend to get killed yourself when trying to kill super mutants, due the fact that burst from their weapons can easily kill anyone too close...

But this is only what I've been experiencing...

Well -I can only mirror. I wouldn't want to have to get close to a long range heavy machingun wielding Super Mutant.
The only time where I use other such "small guns" towards Mutants is when I can "abuse" the obstacles and shoot - duck for cover and repeat. Standing in the way otherwise is deadly.

This is where grendaes come handy, actually, since you can throw those over the obstacle, even though you don't see the enemy, and still hurting it quite badly :D

The reason I have selected throwing as one of base skills

Throwing is a useful skill, because the most annoying thing in the world is having someone hide inside a bunker and take forever to get up (or just lie there forever).

A smack on the noggin with an explosive pineapple is great, though they're awefully heavy and do mean a compromise in other skills.
