Well i just started the TG quest line and............I break into peoples houses and rob them blind....but none of the stuff is considered stolen merchandise....*EDITED* regular peoples things dont count????? When i steal from a store it shows up in my invetory with the red hand on it , but not things i gank from peoples houses...........I want to know why............ :D

@Hellblazer, i've edited your message to remove the profanity. If your stealing in Bruma, then if your going into the house of the guy with a basement (Baelin or something like that) nothing in his house is considered stealing (I have no idea why), his next door neighbor (L something) has some great stuff especially on the second floor in the empty bed room

Stealing

An easy way to tell if it is stealing, when you are looking at it, when it gives you the option to *use*(take/sit down on/open) a hand will appear, if the hand is red then it is stealing, if it is white, then no one cares.

I don't know if this counts, but things in Baenlins' house are probably not stealing because his house is available for the Dark Brotherhood quests. It's empty afterwards, so you can have free reign to his stuff. I think. =)
