Spybot error

Post by dragon wench »

I run several anti-spy programmes, and Spybot is one of them. Whenever I start it up I get the following error:

This application has failed to start because framedyn.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem

After that popup, Spybot begins as normal when I click "okay."

I have tried completely un-installing and re-installing the programme several times, but that does not make any difference.

This isn't an especially big deal, but it annoys me. Does anyone have any idea as to what the problem might be?

No...but it did that to me numerous times. I ended up ignoring the program and then months later doing a system restore, and just installing a new version of Spybot over the old one. It hasn't showed up since. Odd, hmm?

Good to know that at least I'm not the only one. Though, I have tried totally getting rid of it, and then installing a fresh version, and it still hasn't solved the problem I'm wondering if maybe there is something stuck in the registry, but I don't know enough about this sort of thing to really make any accurate guesses.

As I said, it's not serious, just irritating.

Search whether this file exists on your computer: framedyn.dll
See if you find it located here System32wbem

If the file isn’t located there, than replace the Framedyn.dll File
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type %systemroot%\system32\dllcache, and then click OK.
Right-click framedyn.dll, and then click Copy on the shortcut menu that appears.
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type %systemroot%\system32\wbem, and then click OK.
On the Edit menu, click Paste. If you are prompted to replace the existing file, click Yes.

If the file is located there, then the Windows Path environment variable does not point to the %SYSTEMROOT%\System32\Wbem folder.
Go to My Computer, and click Properties on the shortcut menu that appears. If you receive framedyn.dll error, click OK.

In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
Click Environment Variables.
Under System variables, click Path, and then click Edit.
NOTE: If no Path variable is listed, click New. In the Variable name box, type Path.
In the Variable value box, type the following:
%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\wbem
Click OK a few times.

Or, the following page may be easier to read (which I naturally found *after* typing the above :( LOL):

Glad to hear that worked and the problem is resolved. :)

Of all the message boards that I participate on, it is rare for someone to not only *not* ask me where the quote is from but to also know who said it. :o

You would not believe how many PMs I get asking me about it.

Major points for you!! :speech: :p :D  LOL
