Looking for party suggestions and advice for a newb
I don't know anything about this game, but I just got the Ultimate Collection. I have experience with Baldurs Gate 1 and 2, which I'm told are similar. All help is appreciated.

My last party, played on Insane mode, was as follows -
Paladin
Cleric/Ranger (multi)
Fighter/Mage (dualled at Ftr lvl 13, would recommend lvl 9 or even 7 for newbie)
Fighter/Druid (multi)
Fighter/Thief (multi)
Bard
It was very powerful (5 capable of melee or missile fighting, with bard passable with spell buffs), and the bard maxed out well before finishing the expansions (albeit while earning double experience). Notice that 4 of the 6 (C/R, F/M, F/D, and Bard) are powerful casters while the paladin has decent access at higher levels.

Thanks for the advice guys, and I mean no offense, but I need suggestions for somebody that is new to this game, not suggestions on how you did it (unless that worked well).
I want to experience the different classes and as many cool items as possible.
I understand there is a level 30 limit in this game. How does that apply to dual classed and multiclassed characters?

Well, the party I played above was the most powerful party I've played in 6 runs through the game - only part of it was due to the increased XP from the Insane level.
It gave a great range of weapon proficiencies, lots of armor-wearers, and every class except specialist wizard. Nearly every character could fight very well in melee (all 6, by the end), and 4 of the six were excellent spellcasters, encompassing the spells of mage, druid, and cleric. Quite user friendly, especially if you dual the fighter to mage at a lower level.
You need a main tank, 2 supplemental tanks, a thief, at least one and preferably two mage-spell casters, a cleric, and I strongly recommend a druid. The supplemental tanks do not have to be pure-class warriors, but they are most effective if they have some sort of warrior class in the mix.
