Hi out there,
Who can help me with learning spells? How does a mage/druid/paladin, all those characters with spellcasting abilities, get this magic in his spellbook? Any advise is welcome.

Two spell types: Wizard spells and Priest spells.
Regarding Priest Spells:
--Clerics/Druids can cast 1st level Priest spells, starting at experience level 1. Rangers/Paladins can cast 1st level Priest spells, but only after attaining experience levels 8/9.
--As you advance in experience level, you can cast more spells per spell level, and can access higher spells levels.
--Each class listed above can only cast certain Priest spells. For example, Druids and Rangers tend to cast Priest spells related to nature.
Regarding Wizard Spells:
--Mages (and Bards) can cast 1st level Wizard spells, starting at experience level 1 (2).
--As you advance in experience level, you can cast more spells per spell level, and can access higher spells levels.
--Unlike Priest spells, Wizard spells are not automatically attained when you advance in level. Find or buy a Wizard spell scroll. Then right-click the scroll (in Inventory), and click Copy. Success (based in Intelligence) adds the scroll to the character's spell book. This also uses up the scroll.
--Some mages are 'specialist' mages. They can cast an extra spell per spell level, but cannot copy certain types of spells. For example, a Necromancer cannot copy Illusion-type spells.
Regarding all the above:
To be able to cast spells you have access to, you must first 'memorize' the spells. Select your spells in the Wizard and Priest Spell screens, then Rest.
Venture into the wilderness, and practice casting on a squirrel (and fear not the rabbit).
I'm serious, know your spells! This ain't Diablo...

Why is it that whenever I finally get around to playing a new game for the first time,
I feel like playing Baldur's Gate for the second time...

You practice spells by casting them on innocent wildlife!! But what about the animals?
Just to add to this list:
Sorceror - chooses spells when levelling up and cannot use spell scrolls to record them in the spell book.
Bard- Like the Paladin is to divine spells, the bard is to arcane spells.
If you dual-class a character into a spell-caster, you will need to add the icon to the bar at the bottom of the screen. I think you can right-click a button there and get options to add/remove buttons. It should explain this somewhere in the manual. Most of this applies more if you are using the BGTutu mod.
