Strategy Guide: Mephi

Post by black »

I got what you guys told about him being vulnerable to acid but here's to anyone stupid enough (like me) to have an evoker. Now this guy can't learn conjuring spells (mestil's acid sheath or whatever.. and all those acid-spells) so all i could do to harm him was:
- hellball (had some acid in there)
- greater ruin ( 25 - 35 damge )
- finger of death ( 10-20 damage )
- empowered finger of death ( 20 -35 damage )
Of course this doesen't add up to kill him so i tried the following:
- to buy a weapon for aribeth .. too expensive (only one with acid damage was 2.5 mil) My money was spent on Mpehi's name.
- buy mestil's acid... scrools ( evokers can't use them.. pointless )
Buy a lot of Acid Bombs from the demon in Cania .. he has about 20 of them. Don't despair.. at first, before he sends his ice minions on you he won't take a lot of damage from them but when he comes back i saw him take 30 acid damage at one point.
Anyway i was so glad i found a way to beat him without the use of his true name that i casted a finger of death on him and the idiot failed and died on the spot.. So there is this way as well ( i had an inteligence of 35 at that point.. )

For him to fail a savethrow you need to be lucky and he needs to roll a 1 which is a critical fail.
The similar thing happened to my sorcerers using black blade of distastor, it hit Mephi, and he rolled a 1 and died 5 sec into the fight.

Just reload the game 20 times :p .

I must admit I was rather suprised when my Balor (gate) cast Implosion and Meph rolled a 1 :) !

Why would you buy his name if you weren't planning on using it?

IIRC you get XP for each name you learn. And you could allways use the name as a last way out if you can't beat him. My game seem to be bugged, since I can't talk to him when I meet him in Waterdeep. But that is of topic.

I did kill him several times using his name but i was quite pissed that my lvl 33 evoker couldn't kill him without that.. so i tried to find a way.. it's not about finishing the game.. it's about HOW you do it :D
