VtMB - Engine Error Message

Post by Timoteos »

Vamire the Masquerade Bloodlines

I've twice had the game crash and give the following message:
"Engine Error - Can't Change Levels While in Dialog".

First time was in Santa Monica level, following conversation with Tung and
the game was starting to move to the Warehouse section.

Tech support at Activision said that the only way to fix it was to uninstall
game and all related files. This did fix it, and after replaying the game to the
Tung dialogue, all went well.

I'm now finishing up the LA map, talking to the cabbie/selecting Santa Monica
on the destination map and the same crash/error message occurs.

I'm not too keen on doing the above described fix and having to start the game over again. Any work arounds?

Thanks.

VtMB Engine Error Message

Just tried another another fix from Activision - deleted all the
files in the Windows/Temp directory.

That seems to have fixed it.

Back to sqare one again.
Now when I try to get from the LA hub to Grout's Mansion, the
game crashes as soon as I choose the destination on the cabbie's map.

Tried deleting the Windows Temp files, but it didn't work this time.

This is the problem I'm having, except deleting my temp files didn't help. I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and it didn't help =/

Alright, I'm posting this so if anyone else has the same problem, they have a follow up. If, while in a conversation, the game glitches out on you, go to your options and edit your keyboard buttons. I guess there's a glitch in the game where having anything with 'MOUSE1' or 'MOUSE2' flips out the game. Simple go there, and edit the USE command to something on the keyboard. Go back and talk to the person. After the end of the convo, or after you get warped, simply switch it back to it's former command.

OP I LOVE YOU! WILL YOU MARRY ME?

OMG I've been thru hell with this issue. I didn't begin to suffer it as early in the game as you did, but once it hit, it hit hard.

For me I first had this crash with same error msg when 2/3 of the way thru completing all the quests in Hollywood. I had to get to Downtown to check my email as part of the main quest (according to log) but got the crash. THe only place I could go to was Santa Monica (which is in itself strange as another person posting the same issue could go Downtown but not Santa Monica), however after doing the last thing I could do in HOllywood (talking to the script writer) I could no longer even go to SM. Anywhere was a crash, but changed my mouse button options and whala, I'm Downtown.

THANKYOU for having the heart to check back and post an answer for us. I'd tried everything from cleaning temp, to uninstalling, various patches etc.
