Issues running the game

Post by Sapper »

Okay, so when I try to run KOTOR 2, I keep getting an error that windows wants to report. I checked the error record and it said something to the effect that kernel32.dll decided that kotor2.exe did something bad and shut down the program. Then it wants me to report the error, which I did. Hopefully one of ya'll knows what's going on.

If it matters, I run an AMD Athlon 2400, 256 MB Geforce 5500, and an SBLive! soundcard with Windows XP professional, service pack 2. When I installed my video card, windows said that it's drivers had not passed windows logo testing, but I installed them anyway. The drivers were provided by BFG Tech.

Thanks if you can help me, otherwise, have a wonderful day.

I dont think it is either, I was wondering if it might be a driver error.

Anyone?

If you're running an NForce 2-based motherboard, update the drivers from Nvidia's website. Get the Nvidia video drivers from their site too; the manufacturer drivers are always out of date and often unreliable. Update all other drivers and DirectX too as needed. If you are running a VIA motherboard, the Soundblaster Live is your problem, and you need to upgrade to the Audigy series.

I am running an Athlon XP 2800 with a 256 meg GeForce FX 5600, 1 gig of PC2700, and a Soundblaster Audigy 2. Operating system is Windows XP SP2. Pretty much the same stuff Sapper has, and I've had no problems. It has to be a driver problem or hardware conflict with the old SBLive. VIA motherboards have never liked Soundblaster Lives, and it's VIA's fault, not Creative's.

As for GoldenWarrior's problems, it is most likely a driver problem with the ATI card. ATI is notorious for crappy drivers. My advice for both of you is the same: go to Windows Update and get all the major updates (especially DirectX) and then go to ATI's and Nvidia's website and pick up the latest drivers for your video cards and motherboards, and go to Creative's site for the latest sound drivers. I realize many manufacturers such as Asus, PNY, and other vendors offer their own variants of the Nvidia or ATI drivers, but do NOT use them. Their driver support is sketchy and always at least 6 months out of date. The stock drivers will work better. If this does not solve the problems then upgrade the soundcard.
