cant install Command and Conquer: error 1305

Post by bigdan »

Hi guys

I'm trying to install Command and Conquer Generals but for some reason I jsut cant. I've tried a number of times, the one time that it looked like everything was okay (ie it asked for the second CD w/o any problems) we had to interrupt the installing process. Since then (and before then) whenever I'm trying to install it just gets stuck on the first CD. This is the error message I get:

Error 1305. Error reading from file C:\Program Files\EA Games\Command and Conquer Generals\SpeechEnglish.big. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.

I checked the target directory and the file DOES exist.

Any ideas guys?

Thanks
Dan

If I were to hazard a guess I would say a scratched/damanged disk. Have you tried copying the file manually?
Vicsun, I certainly agree with your assertion that you are an unpleasant person. ~Chanak

Sounds as bad CDs. I'd take them back to the store and ask if they had experience with that error.

You could also try - if you have the possiblity - to get it installed on a different computer and see if it is your computer that has the problem (which would still not rule out bad CDs)

Verify that the file exists and that you can access it." (I also got a new computer in case that is the problem.) but I first looked at the disk and it was scratched so i went and got it buffed but It still reads the same message again got any ideas???

At a guess, you may need to borrow a friend's, or buy a new copy. I would suggest making a backup, next time around.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Error 1305

I have the same issue as they do. the thing is my disks arent scratched up or anything, i played them before on my desktop computer before it had crashed and i bought myself a laptop for school, the laptop has beyond the requirements for the game and what not. Why does it keep posting the error to me?
I make it though the first CD just fine, put in the KEY and it asks for the second cd and it doesnt go far before it gives me the error.

I read up above that you can manually strip or download the game from the cd...? anyone care to explain that process to me? thanks for your help fellas.
