well, If you REALLY want tho see him, I sugest to you to go to shadowdale, It´s where he lives,(but he stays little time at home) to go there...
Go nort until you reach Baldur´s gate them follow the river east past Elturel until you reach Scornubel, there south down the river until you reach Iriaebor. got there. Good.
Now go east until you reach a lake follow the cost line nort and them east until you reach suzail.from there is more easy go up the road to Arabel from there to Tilverton.
from there is a little more trikey go nort until you reach mistledale from there is to go a little nort and west. I sugest you ask the way to there since there is many trails to there. If you got there he lives in a tower, near the twisted tower.
Say to Lleo that I sent you to. and give him my regards.
The other way is to whait for him to show up, you must do the Harpers quest.

If you're romancing with Jaheira, it will take a *long* time before Terminsel shows up: there are more than 15 dialogs and other events that need to happen first, and each of them is around an hour of real time apart. Many are also triggered by specific conditions too, such as resting outdoors. If you're not romancing with her, the chain of events leading up to Elminster's visit will happen much quicker.
If you're lucky, I hear he'll visit a second time, though sadly in 3 games I've played (romancing with Jaheira in 2 and not in the 3rd) he never showed up again
.
Drakron Du´Dark:
How in the heck do you know so much about the forgotten realms (is that even the best term for the lands that contain Bauldur's gate and Amn)? Here's a question I've been wondering about: where is Icewind Dale in relation to the Sword coast and Amn? How far is it?

I got a LOT of stuff on Forgotten Realm and AD&D.
By the way acording to the "Complet book of Elves" in Faerûn elves CAN be Druids.
About Icewind dale you have to go back to Baldur´s Gate up Nort pass Waterdeep, pass Silverymoon, pass Neverwinter, pass Citadel Abdal, before you got there. It´s like Being in France and get to the nort Pole.
And Forgotten Realms is the Currect term for this Campain setting.
If you what to Know more about Forgotten Realms feel free to ask about It.
I will Reply if I know.

Caernarvon: You can buy a lot of things for the pen and paper AD&D. One major box is a description of the world forgotten realms. Beside journals there are also maps of all well known regions. Shadowdale is only a small vale there, but because Elminster (and some other heros) have their home there, it is described.
Also a lot of the AD&D books are not only fun to read but have descriptions of regions and are full of usefull ( and useless )informations.

Drakron Du´Dark & mikel:
Thanks for answering!
Wow, I didn't realize Icewind Dale was so far North (or is the Sword Coast just far south?). I like looking at RL maps, so I think I'd like looking at these, even if it is all made up
. I doubt they can churn out these computer games fast enough for me anyway. Maybe a 3rd ed rulebook would be a good place to start? I've heard they changed the spell system somehow with regards to memorization, as well as the multiclassing system--I'd be really interested in learning about how it works.
Hmmmm... I'm starting to scare myself here. Can a hardcore RTS (real time strategy, specifically Age of Kings and Startcraft) gamer become a hardcore RPGer? If only humans could multiclass, I'd be all set advancing in both genres simultaneously, but since I'm stuck with dual-classing, once I leave RTS's I can never get any better at them! Maybe the 3rd ed rules will come to my rescue

Since I am a real hardcore RPGer I count only the pen&paper version as true RPG and that's something completly different than playing a computer game.
For this pen&paper I would say you have to try it, it's like telling someone if he would like computer games if he had never seen a computer. And since all other members of your party are also played by human beeings, it also depends a bit how you (not your char) fits to that group.

concerning RPGs and roleplaying one question for Caernarvon: Dost thou plan on real-life RPGing (P&P) or computer-RPGing? For the first read ahead, for the other try IceWind Dale, Planescape : Torment, Wizardry 8, Ultima ?, not Might&Magic and skip the the rest:
-mikel is right and has good arguments, specially the one that you must have a good group to fit in is important. Even more important is your GM=gamemaster (in BG2-case the computer). Everything you see and everything that happens on your screen must be TOLD by your GM unless he has some charts or maps or (even self-drawn) pictures. But the main aspect of RPGing is telling. The whole group and the GM have to tell the others what they see/do/plan/try to build etc. And all that should result the whole situation take place in your imagination.
-some technical hints: Since your a worshipper of real-time turn-based battles and things like initiative could cause you some headaches. Whether it's acceptible for you or not you have to try with some pro-GM.
-being a 'Starcrafter' and 'Emperor' I pressume you like mass-battles of some kind. In Pen&Paper 3 lousy orcs (with bows...hehe) can cause a whole 5-person-level-1 party a real hard time. So if you really plan to play my tip is to start with a higher level like in BG2. Maybe level 4-6 like 15.000-25.000XP is a good choice for hordes of lesser creatures (goblins, skeletons, zombies, orcs, spiders...) could still be challenging but also single bigger monsters are no party-killers but fun to battle.
-my suggestion: search for RPG-shops of some kind in your hometown. Mostly they also sell comics, (fantasy)books, (table-top)battle-systems (like Warhammer or Warzone) and latex-masks
. Regulary they organize rpg-events, specially for beginners (you know, marketing and stuff). These GMs are pro's. Attend it once or even better try some first steps yourself. You could also ask for gaming-conventions in the area. There you'll find RPGs of different kind/worlds and different player-levels.
Test it and kick or stick to it.
btw. I'm not selling RPGs at all so I'm not doing marketing-crap here...

Well Craig, if it´s me you are asking ( and if you are not feel free to post a angry reply to Weasel) playing a cleric/theif dual class is not recomened, it´s just best to play a full cleric in the game because you can only use cleric weapons and if you put some armor above Leather your thivering skills get disabled.
About a Bard.
Well Bard are not for beginers in the game because there are jack-of-all-trades and masters of none (I played BG I about 20 times and never chose that class , but i used one in Icewind dale).
You must remeber that the best thing on bards is that thy can cast spells but thy are limited to 6th level. if you do the Haer dalis quest you will find a armor that allows to cast Spells(Bard only).
Remenber also That Bards when no true fighers classes are arond are efectives fighters on there on. thy are limited to 1 hand weapons only ( a Bard using a spear don´t fit a Bard image) and can´t use armor above Chain mail, shields or helmets.
There bard song is efective in battle remenber that but like turnig undead cleric abilty a bard can not do anything besides moving around but some times it´s worth the risc.
The pickpocket well it´s usefull just remenber to save before making a try( i an unsure if you can steal from a shop with a Bard)
Last you will find sone Harps what can only be used by a bard (quick slot) that have some good powers.
See the Bards kits for finding on that suits your type of play.
And the Bard stronghold quest are very funny I had read.
Before I go this days afther ssome messages the topics go always off track. please find a topic that is covering your question or make a new topic.
