Really strange problem...

Anyone wanna take a crack at this?

I'm running the 2 CD version of PS:T, with the fan fix-pack, on Windows XP service pack 1. I have a GeForce 4200 video card and a Santa Cruz Turtle Beach soundcard. I was having problems with the spell effects, so I replaced my video drivers with an earlier set. (solved that problem)

Here's my issue. Sometimes, when a movie is played, it stutters. Once this starts happening, it will continue happening until you restart the computer. Simply shutting the game down and restarting it won't fix it. But restarting the computer will fix it everytime. For a while, at least. Then it will start happening again.

I've never dealt with an issue quite like this one before. Any ideas?

Does it stutter like a record would,
Or does it do a quick stop and go, stop and go?

More of stop and go type thing, I guess. Like it plays for a second, then pauses, then plays for a second, then pauses...

I only experienced this with the 'changing of planes' movies.
Is that your case?
It wasn't too bothersome. It wasn't even really a second, more like a few mini ticks.
Does it seriously hinder the game?

No, I get it on every movie and cutscene. Even the 'resting' movie will stop, go...stop, go..., stop, go....

And it isn't just at the beginning of the movie, like it's a little slow to load or something. It continues through the whole movie. It's very regular.

It's pretty darn annoying to have the Lady of Pain show up and stop...then move, then stop...

What's really throwing me is that restarting the computer fixes it, but restarting the program doesn't. Whatever is happening isn't part of the program per say...it must be hardware or OS related. But what could cause it? Maybe some kind of CD caching thing?

I'm sorry, LR, I can't really help you out on the technichalities of it.
Have you tried playing the game with Full Install, or without?
Do you have other programs running while you play?
Does your comp have enough space to house the game?

I'd normally advise you to update your video drivers, but it seems you actually had to revert to older ones... As Wayfarer suggested, you might want to try doing a full install. For details on how to make a full install, read through the sticky thread.
