BG3 In The Works
Thursday, November 4, 2004, 13:27 | MageDragon
According to the October issue of PC Gamer magazine, Baldur’s Gate III is in the works. Although Atari has not announced who the developer or publisher is, they did confirm it would use a 3D engine and AD&D 3.5 rules. Here is a small excerpt:
”The plot will be set in the early days of Baldur’s Gate, but don’t be surprised if you run into a hamster-toting ancestor of Minsc. Atari intends to incorporate a memorable array of Forgotten Realms monsters, races, sub-races and prestige classes and is working closely with Wizards of the Coast to faithfully develop the setting, characters and story. Hight plans to poll fans to ensure that favorite characters, classes and locations are included."
The Hight mentioned is John Hight, Atari Executive Producer. Let’s hope he gets in touch with us here at PlanetBaldursGate so we can run some polls for him.

this is from planetbaldursgate.com

sorry if this is old news but I didn't see any post here
The problem is that the people with the most ridiculous ideas are always the people who are most certain of them.

Maybe this should belong in the BG3 forum.
Glad to hear they intend to use 3.5 edition rules.
lets hope the make it as realistic as possible (by this i mean as close to pnp)

(Funny to hear me say this, i just started playing PnP 4weeks ago)

Early days... does that mean it's gonna be like a remake of BG I? Or like a pre-episode to BG I? Like how Gorion finds you or something... ?

From with what i have read there is no inidcation that the game is going to be connecter with the other 2 games.
So you might run into some old friends, but not connected with the children of b(h)aal.
(keep forgetting if BG or Diablo2 had the "h" in it's name)

Maybe it could even be with Gorion and everything, I mean. I remember the red Dragon in Winspear saying that he had run into gorion and his harper friends and still carried the cars of that battle. Maybe you're one of Gorion's friends or somethin'.

Hmm I thought a connecter would be like how you were captured by John Irenicus, but Adhan's idea makes sense, but who knows maybe you ARE the dragon for all we know.

I understood "early days of Baldur's Gate" to mean that BG3 would take place during the early days of the city, rather than the story. In TotSC, there was a substantial back-story about Balduran himself, how he founded the city-port, and ended up shipwrecked on an island (with werewolves). Didn't the recent article also mention the possibility of meeting a hamster-toting ancestor of Minsc, meaning that the story will take place at least one generation, perhaps more, before the events of BG1.

Maybe the story will follow the founding of the City of Baldur's Gate, perhaps including a young Gorion, and early Candlekeep and possibly focusing on the discovery of the Prophesies of the Wise Alaundo (sp?). Just a guess, of course. We may finally find out the mystical qualities of Balduran's Butter Knife, and find the companion items: Balduran's Teaspoon and Balduran's Salad Fork. When combined, they form the incredible Balduran's Big Metal Dinner Utensil. :p :D
That there; exactly the kinda diversion we coulda used.

That sounds like a strong guess, if you ask me. ;)

Wait, what about Balduran's Boxer Shorts, or Balduran's Socks? Maybe even Balduran's Retainer?

That's just nasty man, why not Balduran's Jock Strap?

Ok, on a more serious note I think it's possible. For all we know the character could be Balduran. Or atleast one of his henchmen or somethin'

More than likely a henchperson (Sorry, had to use some gender-neutral form. :o ), in that case.

The 3d engine scares me - I've played the Ultima series and always felt that making a 3d engine destroyed Ultima 8 and on. Of course, if a camera angle can be moved to simulate the current view, and than angled down and in to simulate a 1st person's perspective that other users may like, they could have a winner.
Did I miss something about the rough estimate for release?
