Starting up!
Wow, I just donwload IWD (I feel silly for just buying BG2 and having to wait for delivery! - seeming as I've owned bg2 but broke/lost my cd's)
Ayway.
Just starting a file. I've got 2 mages (its odd the mage skills are different, ie conjurer is poo and can't use magic missile or chromatic orb)
But yes, I'm not sure how exactly IceWindDale plays, like what wepeon profficiencies are the best.
I have 2 mages (can't remember what specialisation), 2 clerics, 1 thief (to be dualed to fighter) and 1 fighter. Now could you guys maybe advise me if its worth changing characters and what profficiencies to have.
I don't often use cleric (using mainly just 1 if I have to) however seeming as this game is quite undead oriented I decided my turn undead would be REALLY helpfull.
But yeah, tell me tips please. Thanks!

I guess no one really cares for IWD.
I've got me another question, I installed some patches, ease of use and a few other minor things like sounds and ports.
But EOU doesn't give you max hp for levl up, and nor does playing on easy!
EK! is there a way for me to get max hp per levl up? I don't wanna keep rolling like a smo for best hp.
Please help, Untill then, I gotta do a fair bitt'a rolling!

I definitely do!!!
I'm just about to finish it, so I can give you some advices, I guess.
My party consits of a thief/mage (excellent!), a cleric/ranger and a fighter.
As for weapons, you will find some outstanding swords (+3, +4, large sw and great sw too, Sword of Confusion is unbeatable), so your fighter will do very well
I gave my thief/mage long swords too, and a bow (the best you'll find requires 15 Str, so consider that when creating a character if you want to him to use missile weapons).
No need to worry about armor either. You'll come across excellent full plates for your warriors and robes for your spellcaster, too!
One more thing: I saw several good items to use for bards (flutes, horns, harps and stuff) but never used any of them since I didn't have a bard on my party.
Can't tell much about Ease of Use mode, sorry
Only thing I can add is that I'm playing with three characters, and their development is quite satisfactory. I guess that wouldn't be like this with more party members.

Up the IRONS!
thanks.
Although I'm a fair bit into the game, so I don't really want to change my characters.
(everyone of my chars has 18 in the 3 'warrior' stats and 18 in there specialy needed stat, with around 10 in the rest)
I selected 2 mages, and I'm fairly happy with them, although scrolls are hard to get. (the mage in Khaldur is meagerly equiped - levl2 is max for his spells)
I have 2 clerics, now I'm not sure if that was the best decision, I think A fighter dualed to cleric would have been much wiser, with an xbow and a warhammer. - Might try to sk it and make it work, because I can't stand 4 sling using characters.
Then I have My thief dualed to fighter, he is levl 6 in thievery, more than enough for traps and locks, I don't really love the backstabbing so I'm ok with 20 stealth and pickpocketing, well, lets just say I'm patient, I can handle the loading. - this guy is now 3 stars in bows, 2 in halberds and 2 in long swords.
Then theres my #1 fighter, he has 3 in Great swords and 3 in bows.
Now my only problem with my party is that the clerics must use slings, so I really think I'm gonna sk into a fighter then dual to a cleric.
Also, all my chars are about levl 6-7.
If anyone has any other tips, I would be greatfull. (I'm currently about to go to the dragon eye dungeon.)
Wish me luck.
Also, thanks Brynn!

Any time
The mage in Kuldahar (Orrick the Grey is his name) will sell you scrolls according to your level, so don't worry about that, his range will improve. the best scrolls in the game can be found on your way, though. Severd Hand and Dorn's Deep wll provide you with enough magic
Your cleric may use clubs, too, and there is one really good hidden somewhere (can't recall it's exact location, but I remember finding it at the earlier stages... maybe you already have that?), it's a +3 weapon!
You'll find good use of your thief very soon. Dragon's Eye is a dungeon full of traps and chests to loot, and later on you'll get to places even more like that (without revealing to omuch
). I'm sure he'll be one of your favourites

You would have done better with a Fighter dualle to thief or with a multi: more hp, same opportunity for mastery (for dual), and don't understimate stealth, is very useful for scouting and know ahead your enemy.
If you dual a fighter to a cleric, you wan't be able to use weapon forbiddento to cleric (no xbows etc.); sorry but the only ranged weapon a cleric can use is a sling or throwing hammers.

I just found that out the hard way (spend 15 mins organising my character through sk, went to test it, and was still limited like a cleric, which sucks!
But still, I'm alright with it I guess.
I know stealth is good, but I just never really end up using it, unless its TOB with my HLA's.
Is there a way for me to edit the game to let clerics use xbows? *hopes*

Starting Out
I am about to finish my first run through. I started with a full party of six. 3 are single class, fighter, cleric and mage. 3 are multi, cleric/ranger (I agree with Brynn that this is a great combo), c/r's not only get cleric spells but also the druid spells of the same level, so they use those spells long before a plain ranger could. This makes some really helpful ones like Entangle available early on without having to choose a druid.
My other multiclass are a fighter/thief which has worked well for me especially with a little sniping tactic, and a fighter/mage (I like this better than a thief/mage but then I have 6 characters).
My reasons were that an f/t has more hit points AND more weapons proficiencies. I also really buffed up the hide in shadows (you'll love some of magic items which assist that as well) and ignored pick pockets skill.
This developed into my sniping tactic. My f/t scouts out the area and then position himself (in shadow of course) at a point just within sight of one lone enemy. With extra proficiencies he can use a dagger, an axe, a bow, and a crossbow. So he could pot them (sniper style from a distance) and dart away. By the time the enemy reacted there was nothing for them to see so they stayed put. If they seemed really strong I would keep doing this until they dropped. If I didn't want to waste arrows or bolts I would let them see me and then let them follow me back to the rest of the party who could then gang up on them. Better my having 6 to 1, than the enemy having about 20 to my 6. There are some encounters however that this will NOT work with ( I won't spoil those ) so be ready.
Another good thing I learned as I went was that you cannot hide in shadows and find traps at the same time. Activating find traps OR removing a found trap blows the hide in shadows. HOWEVER, if your mage was able to get invisibility you can do the following: Cast invisibility on your thief, activate find traps and then scout out to your heart's content. Activate traps does NOT blow invisibility (like casting a spell or combat does) and NEITHER does removing traps. You remove traps right underneath an opponent's nose (if they have one) totally undetected. Just remember to reactivate find traps after you remove one. I learned that one the hard way.
I did not dual class anyone, I never did like that for some reason when I played D&D. I know a lot who like and use it successfully. But as someone mentioned it can really come back to bite you.

UNCOMMON VALOR WAS A COMMON VIRTUE
Hehe, I'm not new to Infinity engine games I know most of the game play, like how to effectively use thieves. - But thanks anyhow.
I've gotten quite far now anyway. I'm starting the LDD dungeon. I really should have gone for a cleric/ranger, instead of one of my straight rangers. Although I'm not sure how much I would gain from it. I can't use bows or really make use of the stealth, theres just not much gain for so many levels lost to be multi.
I think I'm not gonna play this game for a while though, I'm currently hooked on BG2. (again!!!)

Cleric/Rangers
If I had seen all of your previous postings before I replied I probably would have guessed that you had a lot experience with the Infinity engine games. I just hadn't made it through much of the board at that point. Sorry 'bout that.
Concerning Cleric/Rangers, there is some loss of level for sure, (I am just about to start the final battle and I think I am going to end up around 2 or 3 levels lower than my single class fighter or cleric. For me, I liked having the druidic spells early as I said above. I have used my cleric/ranger in more of an offensive role and my regular cleric as my primary healer. I would give the cleric/ranger spells like Entangle to use in combat and some of the utility spells that could be cast just before going into combat like Prot. from Evil 10' rad. This freed my single class cleric to take more healing spells. To me, it has been worth the level loss. At present he is 2 levels behind my single class fighter but only 7 hit points less than her. With a +4 Morning Star he does about the same damage as she does with a +4 sword. His thaco is close to hers. Weighing it all out, I would do it again, but that it just me.
Anyhow that's my 2 cents worth.
