Newbie questions about epic levels and wizards

Post by markhaus »

Well, after beating SoU and NWN again this last few weeks, I decided to get HotU. Having alot of fun so far, wizard is about to hit 18 but im unsure how I should progress at this point. I would like to try a prestige class like Pale Master, but am wondering if this would actually weaken me longterm. Would spells like horrid wilting stop at 17d8 damage for example, if I was a 17wizard/10 palemaster? If this is the case, this seems a major hit for taking the palemaster abilities. I noticed the palemaster class gets bonus epic feats, but I couldnt find a list of the bonus epic wizard feats, do they not get any at all post 20? Basically, is it better to stay straight wizard, or go palemaster?

Sorry, hope im not asking obvious questions here, the whole epic/prestige class/caster levels seem a tad blurry to me in the book.

Taking Palemaster will limit Horrid Wilting in the above circumstance. Your spell resistance penetration will also be much lower. Straight Wiz will also get you more feats.

Well, sounds to me id be better off staying wizard then, if I get more feats as well as better spell penetration. Damn, palemaster sounded neat but losing spell power and feats seems a poor tradeoff for the powers palemaster adds. 40d8 horrid wilting etc sounds fun.
