If you install ToB (which I can't yet, because Australian stores aren't stocking it yet!) AFTER you are already most of the way through with a game that was started (with a party created) when you only had SoA installed, how does the game react?
Is the experience cap raised? Are the new rules, tables, skills, spells, abilities, etc immediately available?
Or... do these things only kick-in once you've dispatched Irenicus and shift over to the ToB maps/plot?
I have a VERY busy life with work, wife, kids, family, sport, etc and will be REALLY sad if I don't get any of the cool new features in my current game and have to start all over again!
(Sorry this is probably on page 1 of the ToB manual, but as I said - in 'down under' we don't have it yet!)
How Does ToB Interact with Unfinished SoA?

Yes, according to the TOB manuel, you may play with your saved game party even if you have a party midway in the shadows of Amn game. The experience cap will be raised so your charactors will be able to reach up to fortieth level depending on what class you are playing (pure (not multiclass I believe) mages and sorcerors with the new experience cap of 8 million will be able to reach 31level).
Don't worry philip, you do not need to start over again in order to gain the high level abilities in TOB once you get TOB and install it with your shadows of amn game.
Due to the experience cap in shadows of amn you should not have immediate access to the high level abilities in Tob (there was a warning to not remove the experience cap in shadows of Amn!)

Yin and Yang balance. There is one within the other. No Difference in Reality. What do you experience?

I installed ToB and picked up an old saved game where my character was just under the XP cap. Our friend Lorsadan is correct: the XP cap is raised, you get special abilities and quest spells, and best of all, you get to keep trucking right on through the game without missing a beat.
I'm up to 3.6 million XP and took a side track from Chapter 6 of SoA and am slogging my way through Watcher's Keep. I don't know if the game has made any adjustments for my level, but even with some kick-ass quest spells and fighter feats, this dungeon is kicking my butt. Be afraid, very afraid.

Jesus saves! And takes half damage!
