no need to unregister you can just go and mail later if you want to.

you should try taking the game out of the registry.
click on start=>run=>regedit
click on the plus next to hkeylocalmachine/software/bioware
delete the bioware key
delete the baldursgate2 key
and anything else referring to bioware/interplay/baldursgate2
do the same thing in hkeycurrentuser/software/bioware
and then try to reinstall baldursgate2
