now available for 9.99 on the bargain racks (i.e. jewel case only, no box).
My questions is, is it worth it? I've heard horror stories, but it's been a while. Are the bugs patched? Is it fun? Is there any danger of having my hard drive wiped by just installing it?
So I noticed that PoR is...

I heard that on some message board out there. Said the original product that was shipped had a bug that would wipe your hard drive as soon as you tried to play it. Glad to know that's not the case.
Might have to pay the ten bucks to play it.

Ok in answer to your question, I've got this excellent link right here. It's got all the information you'll ever need about this game. If you're the impatient type, here are the highlights:
"there were two major bugs in the release of this game. One that would erase a users C: drive during the install/uninstall process and another that would erase saved games. The install/uninstall bug has been addressed in a patch and the save game patch will be upcoming."
"PoR: Ruins of Myth Drannor is an attempt to carry on in the enthusiastic adventuring spirit of games like the Baldur’s Gate series. Unfortunately by offering little to no role-playing experience and by being based on an outmoded and poorly accessed combat system PoR is anything but radiant."
That about says it for this game, if I were you I wouldn't get it ...

Forget the bargain racks. You can find it on eBay for about 5 bucks including shipping. It's pretty hard to waste five bucks. The worst thing about the game that I've found so far is that you NEED patch 1.1, if your machine has partitioned drives, in addition to the 1.4 patch.
The installer, when unpatched, forces installation on the system partition. A friend of mine didn't have that issue so maybe the problem was fixed in shipments after the initional one. (he thinks he didn't have the problem, I think he should look to see where his shortcut is pointing) Since there were problems with the installer there's a need for 2 patches to get it running right, but Ubisoft just numbered them in sequence, so 1.1 fixes the installer and the subsequent (and subsequently numbered) patches fix game issues.

If you got patches all ready then everything should be fine..I bought the game when it was around 30 bux or so and I personally thought it was really good for what it was. It was a really, really, REALLY long dungeon crawling adventure. I also think they did a decent job with the 3.0 rules. ONLY flaw I saw in the game personally is that you could not pick your own feat progression. They were automatically given to you based on your class. There were also no exotic weapons either so there wasn't a feat for that as well.
