lack of materials

Post by Ravenbane »

Having difficulty with the craft skill.

I'm a level 3 wizard with 6 ranks in craft armour and craft weapon and I dont seem to get materials.

When I bash an chest (or anything) with items in it, I get a pile of the items but no materials and when I bash and empty chest or a door, I get nothing at all

Also, I cant seem to buy blank scrolls. I alos cant buy empty potion bottles but I dont have the brew potion feat yet.

The only materials I have found are bones from skeletal remains.

Anyone else had this problem???

I belive you will only find materials for crafting and scriping scrolls in HotU.

If you are in HotU and not finding materials, well - can't help you there then, because I've never tried it :)

Thanks for the really prompt reply

Really hoping your wrong, I do have HOTU installed, but I'm playing NWN, if you cant craft anything then why are these skills and feats available??

Can anyone confirm this, cause if so I'll have to restart, wasted 2 feats and 12 skills on something I cant do.

Umm I can craft bone wands out of skeleton bones and when playing NWN without HOTU installed the skeletons didn't drop bones, not sure if this is relevant at all.

Crafting skills and associated feats are simply skills that utilize materials.

The skills work - but possible there are no materials in the module. I doubt when they made HotU they went back and modified the original NwN modules and added new stuff to it.
For crafting materials to be in thoese modules (original NwN) they would have to modify the module so that it contained materials.

The reason you might find a few/some materials is that for instance skeletons are a monster and that is easily modifed and would thus work "backward compatible".
By changing how the creature works (for instance that it should always drop bones or something similar), it would automatically change for all modules that used this creature. But to place metal and blank paper in the original NwN, would requiere them to alter the module itself. This is why I don't think crafting will work (fully) before HotU.

But as I said, I've never bothered with crafting in NwN, so I could very well be mistaken.
(it doesn't look to be at all usefull for the amount of skill/feats and what not it takes :) )

No, there aren't any crafting materials in the OC except those taken from creatures. I've only used the crafting skills to change my appearance so it didn't affect me much. Is it possible to make magic armor/weapons in the game? I was under the impression that you couldn't, which makes the Craft Armor/Weapon skills largely useless.

I think you can only craft "mundane" weapons and armour for some reason, which were why I didn't bothere with it either.
Anyway that was the impression I got via the manual.

However, withouth spoiling to much, there are blacksmiths in HotU that enhance weapons for a fee, so possible it is to be used with them?

But I would like to hear somebodys experience with it
