Im thinking about buying a monitor to go with my new computer and Im not really sure of what to get. So where do I turn as always in times of troube - Gamebanshee of course...
Either I'll be getting a 17'' "flat screen", similar to this one (sorry about it being in Swedish) ---->
I'll be getting a "normal" 19'' monitor that costs about $250 less.
Suggestions please....any help is welcome....=)
PS! My computer will mostly be used for schoolwork, games (BG2, NWN, Star Wars galaxies, etc) and Internet....

I think the LCD flat screen is a little easier on the eyes but the CRT still provides a better picture. Depends on your budget, whether a CRT monitors causes your eyes to bug out, how much space is available on your desk.
Crush enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of the women.
I was pretty much dictated to by space when I decided to upgrade from a 19" CRT to a 17" LCD. I bought a NEC MultiSync 1760NX and am thrilled with my purchase. This LCD monitor is slightly cheaper than the one you are looking at, but the specs compare favourably, and in fact the NEC is a DVI monitor, whereas the Samsung is analogue only, plus the response time for the NEC is 16ms, whereas with the Samsung it is 20 ms.
@Ned Flanders: Thanks for the swift reply....=) One of my main concerns about the flat screen was that someone mentioned that it wont look as good when playing games on it... And thats the real only concern I have....if playing games on it isnt too bad I'll go for the flat screen... Dont really play any high-end games after all... I do have a lot of space on my desk, but still.... And my budget could always be better...lol...being a poor student and all that....
@Yshania: Thanks for the input....
Do you play any games using your monitor...cause thats really what Im interested in knowing...if games look alright....

Some time ago I replaced my aging Viewsonic PF775 17" CRT with a Samsung Syncmaster 173v, and so far I haven't seen anything that would make me want to go back to a normal monitor. In some instances high speed text scrolling can be a bit more difficult to read, but at the native resolution of the monitor (1280x1024 for a 17") the image so definitely a lot better than a CRT (provided you've got a video card that can power it!). For desktop applications and web browsing you really can't get much better either.
There are 10 types of people in the world - those who understand binary and those who don't. I think I think, therefore I might be.

Yes SoA, Morrowind, NWN, IWD have all been fine. The only thing that has interrupted in SoA has been if I have received a pop up from MSN when someone comes online, the box hangs there until I go into the save screen then back to the game. That is easily remedied if I remember to turn off MSN Otherwise, I have seen no problem at all with refresh rates, and the colour and resolution are fantastic
Parachute for sale, like new! Never opened!
Guinness, black goes with everything.
Oh...and to close this thread let me just tell you all which monitor I bought.
Eventually I decided on the flat screen one. And so far it's been nothing but fantastic. Much better than I had expected actually...

@Xandax: Yip...I did...exactly the one I linked. Colours are so bright and clear, not to mention how much better it looks on my desk than a 25kg monster would do... Cant see myself going back to a "normal" screen...but thats just my preferance.
Its also much better when Im playing games than I thought it would be. Was a bit worried that it would leave trails (ghosting?) when playing "faster" games....but I haven't seen much of that at all. I run it on the DVI cable which was included. (digital?)
Hey...and whats wrong with MSN messenger?!? Lmao....I love it. Use it a lot more than I ever used ICQ and Yahoo Messenger...
