The altar here is actually your way into the Realm of the Spirit but you must first obtain the ceremonial dagger from the Nymph’s House. Also according to the book Treatise of the Spirit of the Woods you should know what you have to do here. Touching the altar you will get some options. According to what you choose will result into the following:
Answer 1: Poisoned (save negates)
Answer 2: Nothing Happens
Answer 3: Diseased (save negates)
Answer 4: Teleported to the Realm of the Spirit
Answer 5: Attacked by an Ancient Dire Bear
If I choose five(Attacked by an Ancient Dire Bear )(used dagar to scratch initials in altar), later, say definetely before you go to Luskan. I can kill the bear and then go back to the altar and choose the option to scratch my initials in again and the bear will appear again...unlimited times...it gives XP points from 411 to 525, which obviously means that if you keep doing it you could level up there. I did this three sets of times( about 75 times, a few hours) at level 13 and stopped when I reach level 16 before I went to Luskan. I used Boddyknock and made him stand far away and kept in between him and the bear.You want to keep your hinchman from dying because it is too expensive for you to loose xp and $ going back to get him from there. I also remembered to level him up with me. Then by the time you get to Luskan it is easier to kill the warerats and captains and such.
